Since a Berkeley SE328 is probably too hard too find, maybe an Austin Bugeye Sprite.

Good choice. I had a '68 SS. Really fun car.

@Redcupcoffee I moved to ABQ in 1992 from Ann Arbor. I like the weather much better here!

I would love to have my 1968 Roadrunner again.

Thanks for the like. My wife who has passed was a "hippie chick" so I know you.

Great topic.

If I all of a sudden had enough money to buy any car I wanted, bar none, I'd probably try to buy the best production BEV 4 door in the world. That would be either I guess the upcoming Jaguar i-Pace or a Tesla Model X or S.

There are many others I'd consider if I could put together a collection and if I remove the plug-in constraint, including a Lotus Evora.

some additional thoughts -

I've never been a big fan of muscle cars, nor even of hypercars. I've never driven either, so maybe that's part of the reason. With the muscle cars, they're perhaps not quite my style, and I prioritize handling over power. With the hypercars, or the really expensive end sports cars, they just seem like overkill, more like race cars that happen to be technically legal to drive on the streets. I like them, but in the end I don't know that I'd want to own and drive some of the wilder ones.

I used to have an Acura Integra stick 4 cylinder DOHC 88 or so and I loved it. Good handling, low to the ground, engine peppy enough with the stick shift to give some enjoyment in driving around town. That's not my ideal car, but it helps clarify I would mention a Lotus. I'd love to try owning a good Porsche 911..... doesn't have to be one of the fastest, but something to put a smile on my face in just driving day-to-day. I almost bought a used Porsche Boxster, but then I realized there is a reason the prices for certain years are very low (Porsche appears to have badly mistreated victims of the design flaw that felled some of those vehicles).

Until recently I owned the pink slip on all my cars, and agree with responses that incorporate this.

Others on my kind of random list:

  • I love the attention to detail and relaxation of some of the best Rolls Royce, Bentley and even something like the Toyota Century, but I've never been in any of them. However, I have noticed that used/decent Rolls can be had here and there. Perhaps the reason I haven't bought one is the use of gasoline. Some of my work has to do with vehicles and transitioning away from fossil fuel use, so even though a good used Rolls (or most of these others) is obtainable, I've avoided it.

  • additional obtainable used dream cars - if the fossil fuel thing weren't in the way, I'd also consider a used Alfa or Maserati. I'm not sure if we're talking sports vehicle or sedan - perhaps one of each.

  • for any sports vehicle I mention, or some of the sedans, I think a convertible variant is mandatory. I treated myself once to owning a Saab convertible, and had some fun until it died on me. Where I presently live, the sun is too intense at times, but I'd still want to go for it sometimes.

Current car is paid for. I often daydream about what I want to replace it with. Not a clue, too many options. The thought of a car payment again is scary. What I really want is a self driving car.

You are wise

I never cared much for American muscle cars, I think for a couple of reasons. While I came from a lower middle class economic background (and poverty was never far away) my parents were not culturally that way, if you know what I mean. They were thoughtful, refined in their humble way, self-educated. The muscle car crowd always seemed vulgar, loud and unrefined, valuing raw horsepower and noise over refinement. Perhaps because I grew up in import-friendly California, I liked Jaguars, Porche's and BMW's, as well as Mercedes sedans. I thought Corvette's of that 1970's era were gross.

The car I young-man lusted for was a Jaguar XKE. I still think it is the most beautiful car design ever. In their day, and even still today, fast.

I really want a 79 Cordoba. I had one as a senior in high school. Hunter green, mint condition.

In the small town I live in, there is a 4 day car show/festival. Parades, car competitions, live bands. It's such a huge event, they will cancel school. Too much traffic, too many absences.

It's always near my birthday. An exciting way to celebrate every year.

1

Any late model Lamborghini.

Mine is an electric car that recharges its battery from moving flywheels and gears in the car, and is self-driving.

I want a silent, smooth ride, no more stopping at gas stations, and being able to speak to the GPS and tell the car where to go while I read a book in the back.

If they don't have one by the time I get to the US and want to buy a car, I can just make my own prototype, since I'm an inventor and know what I want.

3

68-70 Charger. 440-6.
