Imagine this, a conference,whose first session was on sexual harassment, provided conference packages with condoms inside without asking if participants will come with their wives PR partners!

I think this is a nice gesture, and I don't see anything inappropriate or disturbing. I think people should understand that promoting safe sex it's essential, and we should be more open to it. Moreover, each time people are taught about this aspect they are also taught how to deal with sextortion and different other details that could make a difference. Sometimes we don't understand when we are sexually harassed or blackmailed, but this type of event might open our eyes and make everything clearer for us.

Nothing wrong in promoting safe sex if more of it was done less Sti's and unwanted pregnancies

What exactly is the connection between handing out condoms and coming or not coming(no pun intended) with partners? I can’t see what you are getting at. Is it the fact that it was at a conference where they were discussing sexual harassment? Again I can't see your point.

The point is,we didn't come to conference to have sex with strangers.

@0752532706 Okay, point taken.

And there's the bulk of the problem with condoms: the presumptions that go with gifting or carrying one. It's just a small piece of rubber in a foil packet, yet we attach so much significance to it.

Man rocks up to a date with a condom in his pocket: he's presumptuous in expecting to get laid. Woman rocks up to a date with a condom in her purse: she's a slut, expecting to 'put out' on a first date.

So neither dares to bring one, since neither wants to look as though they've plotted for sex to take place. Sex does take place, and it ends up being the unsafe kind, because no condoms are available.

Society needs to end this bullshit. We need to get over the stigma and the presumptions of motive with respect to carrying or gifting a condom.

I've gone to conferences where condoms have been included as part of the conference handout package. I found it somewhat offensive, as though there was the presumption we were all going to be promiscuous. But depending on the topic of the conference you attended, condoms might be appropriate. I don't know what the conference topic is, but if the attendees are from a group like college advisers, they can probably always use a few extra condoms to hand out. Or if the attendees are college students, providing them with condoms is part of making them responsible for practicing safe sex.

Just curious why would you assume the negative narrative right out of the gate? I do not no would I ever take it that if someone handed me a pair of earplugs a (safety device) That they did not want me to hear what they were talking about. Handing out a condom is handing out a safety device they want you to be aware and protect our selves from STD or even unwanted pregnancy. Showing the youth that being safe using safety equipment helps from harming or even death. Never once did I hear one of my buddies say I have a condom I am going to get some.

@fathercat Difference is to anticipate because you had a condom. Your statement is, in fact, correct the difference in interpretation "did you get some" had absolutely nothing to do with did you get some because you had a condom.

@VAL3941 That's how you feel. I find the subject interesting.

@azzow2 It was quite a few years ago that I went to the conference I mentioned, and condoms were not as commonplace as they are now. So it was a surprise to find them in the conference handout package. Also, there were like ten of them in there, and that was a standard I couldn't ever hope to live up to.

@citronella I just like to approach issues with an open mind. Unfortunately, our training teaches us to speculate a negative agenda.
