Is love the motivator of empathy or is empathy the motivator of love?
My basic definition of love: the wellbeing of others is as important to you as your own wellbeing is to you.
Your mileage may vary.

the answer to this for me is it depends as there will be so many more emotions in the mix that attach to love and empathy- I enjoy my self love when it arrives and I guess for me different feelings are rising adn falling constantly some harmoniously some not and how I respond is different each time. and each situations. I think that is what is interesting about being alive and having interesting times.

Thank you for your thoughtful response.

Neither. It's a basic human response that keeps us looking out for each other. Some people don't have it.

Thanks for your response and you are probably be right.

I would say love is the motivator. Empathy must be a by-product.

in my experience there is no clear differentiation between love & empathy - & no need for one.
