Would you donate DNA or tissue samples to scientific research? If so, how would you identify a legitimate research project/agency?

You would very well run into the possibility of being the next Henrietta Lacks if you don’t have someone constantly looking out for your post death interests...

Only if there was an ironclad guarantee that anything beneficial would not be used to help a Trump supporter.

Already have....the hospital (Kaiser Permanente, California) where I was born has been tracking a cohort of children born there. A few years ago, they sent me a follow-up questionnaire and asked for a cheek swab.....gladly participated.

Not sure how I would Identify them as legitimate other than being university academically supported. Otherwise I am all for education and research and would donate DNA. I would also consider donating my body to science.

My DNA ends up in tissues all the time. Wait. Did I read your question correctly?

I had giant blue nevus removed from my back and donated it to a dermatopathology program

Yes. I haven't a clue.

1

Sure. If it has a chance to benefit others, I'm all for it.

Already have. I don't care who wans my DNA. If you really want to pay for the sequencing costs be my guest.

I donated via a program in NY state. They told me it would be used for research.

1

Definitely. I would pick a lab endorses by the NAS.

Of course donating tissue and body parts to science is a worth while . I have placed in my will instructions to donate my body to a hospital or university and I'm proud to have done it. of course after I'm gone it's all just interesting meet.

I intend to donate my body to forensic research after I die, but although I'm not generally paranoid or prone to entertaining conspiracy theories, I'm not keen on having information of that nature in databases that could be vulnerable.

I would have to have a compelling reason and a solid guarantee of anonymity to donate DNA, other than in the form of blood.

I probably will because more narcolepsy research is always good.

I was in a research study a few years back that was researching genetic links to high cholesterol and triglycerides. With all the chronic health problems I have, I would gladly do it again.

1

I would. People have been searching for the elusive yeti for years. I apologize for being introverted.

1

Yes.I would do it for University research. Or Medical research in Hospitals.

I watched a documentary about a donated body left to research. It was interesting. They cut off one arm, cremated it for the family and then dissected the rest for research. I noticed the cadaver had fake boobs.

I saw that one also, yes it was interesting. I think they were trying to show body problems caused by being overweight.

Nah, I’m good

1

Yes, I would. I can easily research how legitimate an organization is.

You talk to research facilities and see what places they suggest. I know I'm sending my brain to the national research center for schizophrenia, but I haven't decided with the rest of me

"I'm sending my brain to the national research center for schizophrenia". That's a great idea, I didn't know that there was such a place.
