I, and several, family members, worked in the aerospace industry for decades here in Southern California. It provided good living to us, and I will never regret having been employed there.
Those were during the "golden days" of the industry, however, when cost-plus programs were the norm. Now, budgets have been slashed, programs cut, and interest in the space program seems to have flagged.
But, the slack appears to be getting picked up by billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

MacDeeDee, Rocketdyne, Northrop, TRW, JPL, etc. Last project I had a finger in was Voyager 1 & 2. I also worked a bit on Pioneers 10 and 11. Lest ye be impressed, remember there were thousands of people working these projects, most of us just tiny cogs in a huge set of gears. Nonetheless, they were an exciting few years.

I can clearly remember the Mercury missions, and then the Apollo missions. Seing Neil armstrong setting foot on the moon Had such an effect on me that still holds to this day. I have always had an admiration for those that have contributed in those endeavors. I have to thatnk you for your contribution.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I, like tens of thousands of others, was just trying to make a decent living.
baby boomers took control and they ruined their parent's achievement. It is as simple as that.

The first boomer elected President was Bill Clinton. The space program was pretty much dead by the time he took office. A number of boomers I know worked in various parts of what little was left of the space program. Your answer is both overly simplistic and wrong.
@engineer_in_nj -- cite sources and specific data to support this claim. I'd like to know who these boomers were and how they managed to single-handedly destroy this immense complex.
