I just ran across a holy tradition of which I was previously unaware.

A few minutes ago I was listening to an Audible freebie entitled The Most Wonderful Tales of the Year: Holiday Memories Shared by Audible Narrators. In the chapter entitled “Holidays at the Secular Orphanage” by Halter Graham, the narrator speaks of how his father was raised by a Presbyterian minister who believed in “Fire, brimstone, and Sunday enemas before church to be clean for God.”

The sacred tradition of the pre-church enema is a new one to me. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Hopefully it is hyperbole?

One can only hope!

Can't be true because if it was people would not be so full of shit when they are in church.

My father was raised Presbyterian never once did he ever mention such a thing, almost sounds like the minister had a sick fetish tied to being a pedophile. In Canada the Presbyterians were not that much fire and brimstone they morphed into the United Church that is generally a church with social justice as one of its goals.

I have never heard of it and I'm sure that there are many ridiculous practices that encourage people to indulge in self-effacing behavior. Just another extreme example of the impossible conditions set by those who follow a cult or religion. The implied notion of "cleanliness is next to godliness' being thrown in as an extra tit bit for effect.
