So if there’s no god with a master plan for us all...why are we here?

Our parents, and their parents fucked up

Maybe it s like being in detention at school; we have to learn to do/behave better - My son watched that film over and over (the breakfast club)

You're parents banged each other. That's why you are here. What you do with that is up to you.

Someone has to do the dishes ...

Because the environment with time, permitted the evolution of this species from other species. We are all cousins, except for the supporters of the President. They are descended from rocks.

A pure, remarkable fluke.

Just millions of years of cell collisions and mutations 🙂

We're here because we're here because we're here.

You tell me! I am still looking and open to answers.

Because "life" seeks expression and continuity....ever try to keep grass from coming up in a sidewalk?

"why are we here?"

I think the key word is 'we', we provide the reason for being to each other.

Where would you be if you weren’t? I suppose I could answer that question starting with the Big Bang? ... the one from the universe, not your parents.

Love it! ?

For no particular reason, obviously. Nor does there need to be one. Meaning and purpose are intrinsically defined, by each of us.

This is what I go with. Just try to make myself and others happy while I’m here.

The purpose of life is to find your special purpose. (Bonus points to anyone who's snickering at the "special purpose" reference from one of the best worst films ever.) Seriously though, we're here to figure out why we're here; each of us has something to contribute that is unique to us.

Because we are.

Guess what? You get to make your own life meaningful. Instead of looking externally, look within, consider your values, the type of person you want to be and attempt to live by those values.

My advice would be to look about your own little corner of the world, the people that are in it, and try to make it better, for others and the environment.

The question presumes we have to have an answer. If we are emergent properties of the universe, we are fortunate to have developed consciousness. If there is some other why, what hubris to think we have all the answers when we have barely lifted off this rock to explore our universe. Taking myths and legends, and ascribing purpose to us because of them, to me feels like saying The Force is real, and binds us together. If I can’t demonstrate this as true, it’s a nice assertion. It might encourage certain choices from me, but in the end it’s romanticizing an idea. And that is just poetry, the poetry of a creator that made all this just for us, that loves us, etc...

Yes!
