That I like people. I don't, but after working in retail for over 30 years, I can bullshit and shmooze with the best of them.

9

That I'm intimidating. I'm smart and I fight until a solution has been made, so I guess people find that intimidating. I think I'm pretty cool!

I someone is afraid to approach you because you are smart that is a good thing. Better than dumbing down.

8

That I'm extroverted. I'm actually quite shy until the ice is broken. And although I work with strangers all the time, I actually suffer from social anxiety.

As Tom Waits sang, I'm a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction...

Being an Asian, four-eyed, electrical engineer often gets me stereotyped as a straight-forward-logical-analytic-math-loving-mild-mannered-soft-spoken-introverted-industrious-over-achieving-noodle-eating-computer-nerd-bad-driver. OK, I’ll concede, half of that is true. However, after exchanging a few words with me, you will discover that I’m also a playful, outgoing, articulate, funny son-of-a-gun, well-versed in science, the arts and the men/women interaction thing. ?

Think I'm a nerd but I'm actually more like a geek.

That I'm straight. All these women being mistaken for lesbians and the actual lesbian is mistaken for hetero just because I'm femme. ?

6

That I'm easy because I'm flirty apparently.

That I'm a very private person. I'm not - I've just learned that most people really don't care, so I don't tend to volunteer information about myself unless asked.

That I must be posh and a snob because, for some reason, I've got a very posh accent. I'm actually as common as muck and quite frankly don't give a shit where you're from, which school you went to, what you do (or don't have to do) as a career and whether your family seat is a castle or a council house.

That I'm angry and mean. I have a serious case of resting bitch face and I'm generally quiet in groups. Truth is, I'm just very content and I enjoy helping others. Most discover that I'm very compassionate and a peace monger. I find a bug in my home and it's catch and release.

Look, you gotta understand that at the time I thought my life was in danger. It was dark and couldn’t tell that they were children. The newspapers are going to write up a sensational headline, so please don’t go off of that. Years later I was able to plead down to involuntarily manslaughter, and the bury that on page 10 if they report it at all.

4

That I'm super easygoing and not fazed by anything. I must be good at not showing it, but I feel like I'm totally stressed out most of the time.

That I'm a bitch. I mean, sure, I can be, but I'm usually a fucking sweetheart.

dkp93 Level 8 July 19, 2018

Now that's a special kind of sweetheart

That I am a drunken, lesbian, witch.

@Anha And astonishingly superstitious sometimes.

Ha !! I am lesbian too... I like women !!!

That I don't care. But in truth, I care more than I let on, and it hurts sometimes to express it. Which is why I tend to keep feelings to myself, even though I appear (or try to appear) as a bubbly, outgoing person when I'm more of an introvert. They call this "extroverted introvert" (yes, it's a thing). For example, these signs are definitely me: [introvertspring.com]

That I'm intelligent. I mean I definately am in some ways. I have a lot of knowledge. I can fix anything, build anything and do anything that needs accomplished and carry on an intelligent conversation in even really complex subjects but I'm broke and alone. So my relationship skills and my financial skills are seriously lacking and I definately don't feel very intelligent.

3

That I'm a hoe

3

That I am a decent human being, who cares about all. Seriously, people think cause I'm not religious, I'm an jerk.

Few people expect me to be as strong and fast as I am. I sometimes hand luggage to people and they almost fall over when they take it, having assumed it must be light.
Sometimes I'm taken for a Thai because of my petite frame, brunette hair, lifestyle, and my ability to speak Thai.

@Redcupcoffee But I'm 65. I move so quickly and abruptly that I sometimes scare the Thai. I have to force myself to move slowly. I sprint across roads, run to catch up with songtheaw buses, and leap into the back. I used to run up stairs two at a time, but after I was clubbed in the head in 2014 by a robber, I stopped doing this.

@Redcupcoffee Right now I am treating cancer with cannabis oil, so often the symptoms compromise me. But when symptoms ease, Thai people act startled when I show strength and speed as a senior woman. Most adult Thai don't run or do anything that resembles exercise, so when I sprint across a highway, I tend to draw attention. I noticed that US adults also don't move much once they reach 30 yrs old, so I used to startle the US people as well.

That I'm a mean serious person because of the way I look.

Looks can be so deceiving.

I remember teaching a class years ago and on the first day, this biker-looking dude with tats and long stringy blonde hair walked into the class room with a very 'tough' expression on his face. He was also about 6'3 so he made an imposing figure. I remember saying to myself, "oh f**k." This was going to be a tough class. The course had to do with managing and resolving anger and conflicts which was often challenging and triggering for learners.

He turned out to be the most gentle of men, and brought an incredibly positive perspective to the class.

@josephr It's weird though because looks can be deceiving, but I can't really fault someone for thinking that way when a person looks mean, especially when the person is big. I know it's just a defense mechanism. I'm also a big guy at 6'2" and about 250-280 pounds most of the time. If I was like 5'5" and 160 pounds then I doubt people would feel the same way or at least be less threatened.

@Piece2YourPuzzle Very true. People are so quick to fight or flight, often not even checking to see if there perception is right or wrong. In the class i wrote about, we did a lot of role playing and i saw how the people around him in his groups were always wary of him when the role playing began. But were laughing with him at the end.

That I really am nobody??

3

That since I'm agnostic I have no ethics or morals.

3

Many think I am older then I am. People are surprised that I am not christian. And I regulary hear, “you’re actually really nice.”

Funny, I told a Christian lady I was Christains for about 3 months.

Then she told me, oh that is why you such a nice guy.

I get the same thing.

3

I'm mean. Apparently, I scare the neighborhood kids. I'm okay with that, though. Some kids were playing ding dong ditch, several times one night, upsetting the dog, and I caught one of the kids under an ornamental tree in our front yard (it wasn't difficult - he was still giggling). All I said to him was, "We're done, right?" Haven't had that problem since.

3

That I’m Jewish. Seriously.....

@Redcupcoffee Really???? Where do you live?
