Everything is finite

cava Level 7 July 19, 2018

You know this how?

@Coffeo Well it's one way or the other and I don't believe in god who is supposed to be infinite.

@cava There are plenty of infinite things in math. Couldn't the universe or multiverse be also (never mind god)?

@Coffeo Math and god are a products of thought, and thought does not necessarily equate to reality.

@cava True, but that tells you nothing about whether reality is finite or not.

@Coffeo I think our conception of infinity can only be grounded in the finite. What we can experience is finite, infinity can only be projected in thought. as a possibility. And, perhaps our own finitude and nature's own contingency suggest its finitude.

@cava A possibility. That's all I'm after.

@Coffeo If everything, then all possibilities are actualities, so don't try so hard.

@cava I'm not trying anything, but I tend to take issue with people who make unverifiable assertions.

@Coffeo I don't think we could get very far without unverified assertions, assumptions.
