I may have hypnotized myself to resist pain. My Md recommended a hypnotist before I had a back operation, but the hypnotist was on vacation so didn't get to experience it.

When I was younger I had a sociologist try to hyptnotise me , but it didn't work at all. I was never able to get that far into the 'trance'. It might work on some, but it never worked for me. a shame though, I would have loved to find out what I might say while under.

I want to try it out.

I've seen reports that hypnotism is totally legit, and reports that it's totally fake. I would have to experience it for myself to have a legit opinion. Although hypnotists say some people are more likely to be hypnotised than others so who the hell knows.

That's why I want to experience it.

I've not experienced it, but my ex wife, an extremely intelligent and well educated woman, swears that it was what helped her quit smoking.

In the mid 2000s I did the hypnotherapist thing to quit smoking. It worked great! Until a friend dropped by with a bottle of vodka...

I had a professor in grad school who used hypnotherapy in her practice. I took one of her workshops and found myself caught up in her relaxation techniques. Some in the workshop were even snoring. She told the story of her husbands disbelief in hypnotherapy.

Challenge on! He was a mathematician and she hypnotized him to forget the number 9. Which he did, poor guy. She did a quick test on everyone to determine who could be easily hypnotized. Some could others couldn’t and a few could go either way. It was an interesting class.

When I was in the Army in Okinawa, we had a hypnotist give a class on SAEDA USA (Subversion And Espionage Directed Against USA) Basically how to be aware of possible illegal activity and I just realized that was when social engineering began. However, this guy hypnotized several people I knew. It was fascinating to watch. I've considered hypnotism as treatment for anxiety and depression.

When hypnotised you will only do things that you would do when not hypnotised ...apparently a guy in france hypnostised a number of women to have affairs with him one or two did but the majority refused as they wouldnt do it in normal circumstances .

I had a therapist years ago try it on me a couple of times as I'd wanted to recall a particularly colorful period in my life when I wished I'd kept a journal ... it didn't work that well, but we tried.

I'd love to be able to recall that period of time in detail.

I use self hypnosis to deal with mild insomnia and to calm myself down in stressful situations such as taking important tests. I've found that it works wonders in both instances. If for no other reason than it focuses and calms my mind and allows me to shut out residual thought patterns.

It worked wonders for me.
