In relation to recent posts about songs we would want played at our respective funerals, I submit my Death Song. Background: Years ago a friend and I were in the car, and a song came on the radio that both of us hated passionately. In fact, I don't even remember what the tune was, just the seething RAGE I felt at the idea that people joined together, recorded it, and released it to the unsuspecting public. I hated it so intensely, I opined aloud that I hoped it would not be the last song I heard before I died. And that got me to thinking, what WOULD be an appropriate last song to hear before shuffling off the mortal coil? Although most folks I asked offered up something on the order of a serene ballad, I chose:

Yep, Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life." Why? I'm a fan of irony. Now one could argue that the lyrics describe the life of a heroin user, which I am not now nor have ever been. But remember this ditty was also part of an ad campaign for a family cruise line. So allow me some recontextualization here. My death, my choice. If you're so inclined to think of one, what would your Death Song be?
