Your are talking about a different breed of human. Perhaps after another 100,000 years of evolution. But as long as people can imagine and fantasize, one wonders if it will ever disappear, just seems to come with the territory.

Everyone needs something to believe in. Perhaps christians arent strong enough to depend solely on themselves.? I say if there such a thing as God existed, he made me strong enough to believe in myself, not need a crutch to cling to, I can think for myself and refuse to believe something just because someone says I should. I create my own moral compass and guidelines to live by without a work of fiction quoting how I should live. I don't think it will ever be purged, there are way too many sheeple. As for life after death, no one know what's gonna happen till we get there!!!!

I hope not. I think religion prevents us from evolving . As long as humans hold on to religion our species will have a ball and chain.

Given the fact that the global human population is on the rise and nothing will most likely curb that trend anytime soon, I'm inclined to believe the mental illness we refer to as "religion" will continue to manifest itself in those who are either ignorant or unsuspecting.

While many will experience their moment of clarity that cleaves them from their previous faith, it seems unlikely that it will ever be enough to offset birth rates among the religious.

I think so, especially in america since we as a whole are less intelligent because we don't care about funding education. Under educated people don't question, they sheeple out. Its all control.

There will always be irrational people. There are people today believing the Earth is flat. No new technology or social development will change those peoples minds. Their numbers might shrink so much that they won't have any significant political power anymore, but they will always exist. Our goal should be to reduce their influence by educating people.
In my view the belief in god or an afterlife is not the main issue either. I think drawing moral or political conclusions from your irrational believes is where the line should be drawn. That is what needs to be stopped the most.

I believe if we ever meet an advanced alien race that they'll be able to speak of their history when religion was part of their lives. My opinion is that it's the "terrible twos" in the development of a species. Nature has laws that transcend our planet, things like the strong surviving, predators and prey, intelligence over brawn in the long run, evolution to adapt to your surroundings or dying out, fear of the unknown, and making up answers when you're more afraid than you are smart.

One day it'll go away, but I don't think it's on the horizon. The fact that some people have built new religions is my gap, I'm not even sure we're done with the new ones.
