What is your absolute favorite TV show of all time?
You have to identify genres.
Comedy - Frazier
Sci Fi - Star Trek TOS 66-69
Mystery - Twilight Zone
Adventure - Game of Thrones
Spy - Man from Uncle
Drama - Brideshead Revisted.
3 of your 6 are shows I have not watched. Please tell me what you loved about each?
@JenBeberstein which three?
@David1955 the last 3 listed.
@JenBeberstein I'm sure you must know Game of Thrones, it's like a global TV cult. The Man from Uncle, 1964-68, great classic from the 60s, absolute who's who of acting from that time support roles, a really cool show, Robert Vaughn is great. Hard to see unless you have them. Not streamed, sadly. Brideshead Revisited, UK, 1982, based on the Evelyn Waugh novel, total classic, beautifully made series. All these years later it's a joy to watch.
It's a tough question to answer... for me the answer is probably Firefly even though it ended too soon!
I only discoved Firefly after it was cancelled, but two of my close friends met and got married through their Browncoat group.
@Strabo I didn't even know that was a thing!
@JenBeberstein Oh yeah, there's a global community of die hard Firefly fans out there who usually refer to themselves as Browncoats. I'm not part of it but I have many friends who are.
@Strabo probably a very fun group!
@JenBeberstein Yes they seem pretty organised and have meet-ups all over the world.
I'm going to have to say Star Trek TNG, not because it was the best TV show of all time, but because of the memories of that time of my life, the people I watched it with and the conversations we had about it.
Sometimes circumstance elevates what might have been unremarkable otherwise.
@JenBeberstein We were all science postgrads, so the themes of the show were very much in line with our view of the world.
@Strabo Sounds like a very interesting group of people!
I can't just name one but tied for first are.
Dexter.
Game of Thrones.
Battle star Galactica. ( the 2000's series, not the 70's show).
Dexter is in my Top 5 for sure!
@KCjoe108 I hear you.
I have to really give it up to the writers, such an original concept, rooting for a serial killer.
@TristanNuvo
Yes! I have a few shirts from the show, and a poster. My favorite shirt that I have asks: Do I see plastic sheets in your future?
I wanted to get the one that states: I support Dexter's right to choose. Lol.
Doctor Who. Endless variety.
This is one I have not experienced. I have heard and read a lot of good things.
I kind of lost touch with Dr Who after the fourth doctor. It was very low budget in the 70's but still cool!
Farscape. Hands down.
I love Farscape.
Farscape is the best. ?
1 soap
2 married with children
3 cheers
4 twilight zone
5 alone
I remember Soap. It was a trailblazer for it's time. I really enjoyed watching it.
Soap should be added to my list.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Yes!!! Mine too
Seasons 2 and 3 I'd stack against any 2 TV seasons ever. And the musical episode was incredible.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Too many to mention, but here are a few in no particular order:
It used to be MAS*H, and I still love it a lot, but I'm inclined to say that maybe Supernatural has eked up there close to the top spot.
@Akfishlady Cass is awesome. He just gets weirder and crazier and neater. I've officially seen every episode (a couple of times actually)... Season 14 starts soon, and I'm looking forward to it.
My all-time favorite is Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It truly had everything. And bonus points for the LOVELY Alison Hannigan.
@CoastRiderBill
Like Eliza Dushku... Yumm!
SyFi remake Battlestar Galactica
Star Trek TNG,
Next Generation definitely kept a person thinking and engaged!
South Park
Over 20 years and STILL hilarious!
Doctor Who. I've watched since about 1983. ?
That's roughly when I stopped watching it! It was never the same after Tom Baker went.
have you seen the new one? I adore "Tommy Maitland"....LOL
It's pretty funny
Weeds
The Americans
The Sopranos
I freakin' love The Americans! But I haven't seen this last season yet...
Law & Order- Criminal Intent; Detective Gorens the shit
GOT is my favorite if miniseries on HBO count
And OITNB, DEADWOOD, HANDMAID'S TALE
Man, that's a though one.... I would say The Big Bang Theory. Reason being, by pure luck I was watching TV the day aired the pilot episode. I was pleased with the writing style and I thought right away it was going to be such a boomer to see it cancel the next season. Gee, did they proved me wrong !!!!.... My life have changed quite a lot and the show is still standing !!
I came out of TV retirement to get addicted to TBBT on the advice of a friend who insisted I borrow all the DVDs of previous seasons to catch me up. I don't have cable any longer but that show really gave me hope for TV in general.
Spitting image
Outrageously accurate, funny and satirical puppet show featuring rubber re-creations of prominent people.
And
Star Trek
Loved Spitting Image and Blackadder.
Wheel of Fortune. I was a contestant on the show in 1997.
Roley! How cool is this! Anne
Dexter, except for the last season which was terrible! Also, a British sitcom from the early 2000's called "Coupling" kinda a British version of Friends.
Ditto on Dexter.
So many to choose from.
I think Breaking Bad and The Wire might be the two best shows I've ever seen. There is just something transcendent about them that elevates them from TV to art.
The Good Place may very well be the smartest show currently airing, mixing ethics, moral philosophy, pratt falls, and food puns in equal measure.
Person of Interest was an astoundingly good show that started with what seemed at first to be a paper thin premise for just another procedural. However, it quickly became one of the best science fiction shows ever made, delving into complicated issues of artificial intelligence, conciousness, and the surveillance state.
Brooklyn 99, started a little weak, but by the end of the first 7-8 episodes it had become less of a Andy Samberg vehicle and more of an ensemble that focused on the whole, wonderfully diverse cast.
Justified was a fantastic show and a prime example of the idea that every character can be fully formed, well rounded and entertaining, no matter how small. The writing was smart, the energy between the actors was downright electric, and the dialogue was razor sharp.
I'm with you on Person of Interest and Justified.
