I am retired and while I have no wish to "run away", I do contemplate hooking my camper to my truck and just taking off to anywhere I choose to go and stay as long as I want. I just can't seem to bring myself to doing it for whatever reason.

Yes! While I can't deny a desire to run away, I think it's important to actually look at it from the flip-side, and nurture a desire to run to something.

well I would say come and join us here in Minnesota, but you might not like the cold and snow, but once you embrace it, you'll realize that there are lots of fun crazy people here. As far as laid back hippy city, you are bringing me back to my youth, I would say check out Eugene, Oregon, where I lived for a few years back in the early 90s

You can only run away if you have somewhere else to run to.

At any given time there are more than 100,000 people travelling Australia on a permanent basis. The majority are self named grey nomads on pensions. When you have money you fuel up and travel. When you don't you try to make some fruit picking, buying and selling whatever your interest is in.

We all just need to pick a state to all run away to. We could shift the population to be majority atheist and create the first atheist State!

Never been one for running I do love to travel and do, but, I am always glad to get back to my frozen wasteland. I live in Canada'e bible belt where I prefer to stay and fight for the return to sanity rather than run from their cult influence.

Tempted to move back to the East Coast from West Michigan/Grand Rapids, as it is, I have a job in Lansing and I’m trying to get my house listed so I can at least be closer to work and in a government/university town metro. Now if I didn’t have kids, I’d probably have a greater urge on either moving east or pursuing some type of long term volunteer activity.
