If your single, do you feel awkward going to social events alone?

Not usually. If an event seemed iffy, I'd probably skip it altogether. Though that said, I've been pleasantly surprised at times !

No!

Not a problem. Except if everyone there is a couple and I'm the only one who's single. Then I feel like a third wheel.

Not really. As someonewsho studied sociology in college i am aware that people who are coupled up will help you meet people they think you might like.

I avoid social events. If I do show up at one it might stand out that I'm looking for women who also came to the event alone. You never know?

I am 4-th term President of a Singles Social Club for over-55's, and we have a broad spectrum of social "shyness" in the group....some belong to the Club simply because they then Never need go to anything alone. Others like me just DO it!

No, not at all. I have been widowed for some years now and am used to it. I do however take a friend or my son if there is an add-on included in the invitation,

It depends on the event. Weddings don't bother me, since I tend to be the photographer.

My discomfort at social events is almost entirely driven by my extreme introversion, not by being single. I don't enjoy 'small talk' so most of the time I stand by alone and try not to look like I'm contemplating escape.

It depends upon the event. Conferences, seminars, etc.: no. Parties, receptions, etc. in which the focus is on couples: yes.

Yes but I also feel awkward in social setting with groups of friends.

I do feel awkward going to social events, but I think it has more to do with self esteem than with being single.
