I've just been informed that a fairly well known author (locally, at least) is doing a review of my first novel! I am beyond excited!

@DerekD I hope that will be for your benefit and not his to denigrate you in favour of himself. Is it stated that you will have right of correction of his factual mistakes prior to publication? It was a standard I always applied when reviewing CDs...my opinion is mine and I prefer that the reviewed person concurs with my stated facts (not opinion) prior to publication.

That is really cool. You must be pumped

I am very excited! Plus, one of the young women I met here is now reading my first book, and MrLizard just informed me that he has bought a copy!

You are all very good to me, and it means the world to me!

OK! I just got the blessing from the Admins to give more info, post links, etc.

My books are indeed on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B01MTU8IXF/ref=st_afs_B0716QHS64"; You can always go to www.derekdykes.com if you want to read the first chapters of any of my work (even those in progress). My first trilogy started its publication in 2010, and the first book was reissues in 2012 when a small publishing house picked me up. The last book in the series came out last fall. The books are entitled (in order of course) MADNESS, MAYHEM, MURDER.

They take place in the mid 2050's, and while there is some future-tech, they are more character driven, making them less sci-fi, and more suspense/thriller.

I would appreciate any glances/feedback/etc, good or bad, on the work, the artwork (which I do myself as a matter of pride) etc. I think that, especially if you read Book Three, the role of the Church (and of cults in general) is unsettling enough - but I don't want to give away too much!

Thank you all for being such a supportive community. It means the world to me.

Congrats!!!

I'll be happy to tell you guys about it - -but first I am going to ask the admins if that would be alright. I do not want to breach community standards.

Way to go!!! 🙂

What is your first novel and who is the publisher?

The first is entitled MADNESS; I was picked up by Caelmbre Publishing and Arts in late 2012. It's a very small PH that does use the POD model - but that has given me so much more control and input on the final product! And, it's greener... and I don't see my books in the dollar bin very often 😉

2

What's the novel about? You using POD?

Print On Demand. Through Createspace, which feeds Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I reviewed a shit load of POD books for the self-publishing crowd a few years ago. Getting a novel picked up by a major publishing house is a black art... unless your name is Dan Brown, David Baldacci, Steven King, or John Grisham.

@MrLizard - it's a newer method of publishing called "Print on Demand". It is much less wasteful than the older publishing models, though it doesn't lend itself well to stockpiling large numbers of copies for future distribution.

That is cool. Remember - there are no bad reviews. 😉

Congratulations. Hope all is well.

Congratulations Derek. I hope it is a good review 🙂 Or maybe I should hope that it is an accurate review, and that it benefits both your readership numbers and your continued development as a writer.

The first book has actually been out for a while now. My third (last part of this series) came out last Fall. It has been a really great experience!
