It often feels like these people whom claim to be of a 'non-binary' gender are using this as a placeholder for personality traits and/or they talk about it in place of actual interests/hobbies to make themselves sound more interesting and unique. This seems particularly the case case for the various non-binary youtube personalities. Is there any biological/psychological evidence for more genders?

Male female dichotomy is a religious trope, period. Reality is much more complicated.

Take a look at the apes or dogs. The same behaviors exist. So long as there is a scale between male and female, there will be people that show up at every point between the two sides.

Well, you know how genetically men are XY and women are XX? I have a friend who has the genetic anomoloy of XXY. I go with my friend once a month to attend a group of trans/non-binary people. Most of them do not tell people about their difference(s). They are "in the closet" about it. This kind of goes against your theory that they are looking for attention. For most of them freinds outside the LGBTQ community don't kow and the definitely don't tell their employers.

My experience in talking with such persons is that they are looking simply to be accepted for who they are without judgement(s).

There are a few couragepous persons who make up a very small part of the non-binary community who are open and visible to everyone mostly because they feel that by doing so, it will make society more accepting over the long run. They make a point of explaining their differences to make people understand. Not because they seek attention.

There is lots of evidence of biological gender anomalies, but physical manifestations are only the tip of the iceberg as they say. The majorityl differences are liely more biochemical, and little research has only just started. The major problem is that there is no rofit motive in doing reaearch in this area, so there is almost no funding to understand non-binary and gender dysphoria causes and conditions.

Based on some psychological models it is claimed there are mor ethan 30 differences that constitute different genders. However, this is a new field of study, and the current models are only strtign points from where to begin. They re not yet really all that definitive. If you look at the models created by Signund Freud, almost all his models and theories proved wrong, but that ws the starting point of psychology, as all science has to start somewhere. just as alchemy (a discredited science) was the start of modern chemistry.

Yes, some peoel are different and dont' fit into the pigeon holes or boxes that society wants everyone to fit into. As atheists we dont' fit into societal categories a lot of the time either.

Evolution is active and humans are still evolving, which means nature will experiment by introducing differences in people. I think we shoudl accept people with their differences as they are.

At soem point, we may actually understand what the differences are and what causes them, but probably not n our lifetimes. When we do understand, Then there will be pressure mostly from the religious to "cure" the differences, rather than just marvel at and accept how vast human diversity relly is.

@PalacinkyPDX Yes. My friend was raised male, and the doctors put my friend on male hormones, which made my friend depressed and suicidal. So, they switched to female hormones and now my friend is much happier. My friend identifes more as "gender fluid" than trans.

I am no expert, but it is my understanding that often an extra chromosone result in what is usually grouped in with some form of autism, but most persons with just one extra chromosome fall into the normal intelligence range and are usually classified as very high functioning if they are affected. (I have only met two persons that I am aware of with the condition). When you have two or more extra chromosomes, as they can be long strings of repeated X or Y chromosomes, then it more often than not puts a person in below average intelligence ranges.

My point in bringing up the XXy is that it was asked if there are any phscal indicators of gender differences, and I was trying to point out that gender is not as cut and dry as some people would like to think it is. I separated psychoiligcal and physical in showing that it was nto so cut and dried in either area, not to definitively prove anything, but to show that there is still a lot we don't know and to counter the idea that postulated that such persons were only seeking attention, as stated in the original post.

Personally, I don't relly care fo rhe idea of "gender roles", in that I do nto think a person shoudl be limited in what they allowed to do with their life based on their gender. I believe in equality across to board, and tht gender only factors in when one wants to actually reproduce.

From what I understand - having only one person I know who is gender fluid - it is a societal construct. What makes a person male or female is really something society defines. I would love to learn more about that. I identify as a heterosexual female and I know what that means to me, but that may not be the same for everyone.

Hermaphrodites ?

There are detailed studies that show evidence to support that transsexual brain activity is both distinct and more similar to their preferred gender than to their biological one. Just as the studies show that bisexual and gay brain activity is more closely similar to that of the opposite hetero sexes then to their hetero "normal" counterparts. Everything else is conjecture and bias. In other words, it's genetic.

Not referring to transexuals/transgender people - but TY for the obvious

@DangilEEAC You're welcome for the information, but not the sarcasm.

There's definately an argument there's a psychological thing going on whether its a positive or a negative is still to be seen . Politics has invaded this subject and a lot of the studies are being shouted over by those who wish to exclude biological and scientific evidence......watch the hate i'll get for pointing this out

@PalacinkyPDX politics is in every subject there's no getting away from that . What I mean is that it's now got to the point where scientists are afraid to release their studies if it contradicts certain groups opinions

@PalacinkyPDX that's the point of science it can be found to be true or false, works both ways . There is an interesting podcast of joe rogen with a Dr Debra Soh she brings up some interesting points on this issue . Such as children being encouraged to have surgery when later in life they change their minds or just realise they are gay . Due to the political issues people are not just sayng shall we wait until the child is an adult before encouraging surgery, those saying can we wait it are bombarded with hate . People are also ignoring biology and claiming things that are simply untrue . As for your final quip the subject matter keeps arising and because i differ from your view you are trying go dismiss it despite the things i have said are never hateful just questioning

@PalacinkyPDX and your abusive tone is proving my point exactly .
