Copy editing is part of my job. I’ll notice every error, but I have no desire to fix it outside of work. This is a forum, not an essay or a news article.

When it appears to be typo, I don't typically say anything. When it appears to be an actual case of bad grammar, whether or not I correct them depends on their level of douchiness. For instance, someone using the phrase, "your an idiot" will be met with a correction and a dose of their own medicine.

It depends of course. I love language, so I always try to be accurate, but there's a line, and I don't want to be insufferable hah

I never mind being corrected but it's how it's done that can be irksome.

As for being corrected myself, I welcome it. I try not to make errors, and when I recognize them, I edit the little buggers right outa there. As an editor and an author, being on any social media site requires the utmost of self discipline and restraint, but I manage. Occasionally, though, I....

I like to say I'm the Oskar Schindler of Grammar Nazis. I'll notice but I'll only point you out if you're being a real dick about it, and even then, only if there's nothing more Salient or substantive to get into. if the misuse greatly changes the meaning I might politely point it out or ask for clarification. But on sites like this or apps that people are using from their phone most likely I understand and make a lot of mistakes myself. or rather I let talk to text make the mistakes and don't have time to correct them all. I just switched to Android and hate typing on this thing. but trust me if I use the wrong homophone I realize it and it drives me nuts too.

I usually don't.. with this auto correct thing, that drives me crazy! I figure that causes alot of the errors.

Hmm, I have made mistakes and people go ape shit at me. I don't mind being corrected just don't assume it has anything to do with intellect and don't call me all sorts of crap.

I correct them quietly in my mind.

It honestly bothers me more when people ignore grammar and spelling. Especially when it appears to be deliberate,or in an attempt to sound edgy or cool.

Doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather I be correct now and be right later when it matters.

I say its not legal text or a term paper for school as long as you can figure it out fine if not just ask to clarify it

I'm dyslexic and so I'm mostly use to people correctly me.
The only time it's annoying is when I'm trying to make a point, and the point is ignored because of a spelling of grammar error.

I was born and bred in the u.s.a. had wonderful teachers when children behaved in schools or got a paddle with a rubber hose from the principle, (we had no 'bad boys- they all behaved ) and I learned to speak and read and write English correctly. Shame on anybody who abuses our language - it does show who is educated and who is not. How you speak defines you without question. Impersonal you there of course. I normally do not correct anybody - any one who uses incorrect English is uneducated and most likely not very bright so what's the point ? I really feel sorry for them. If its my family or children, absolutely , yes. I don't mind if someone points out a mistake I might make. I can listen to anybody speaking and tell you what level of education they have. We all can. But I can't remember when that ever happened.

Yes to all of the above. I hate to be wrong, so if someone corrects me on fact, spelling or grammar, I will normally research the question. If I am wrong, I acknowledge it and thank the corrector. If i was right, I try to cite why i believe I was right. I also admit to ignoring it if it really doesn't matter to me.

It's hard to know if it would be appreciated so I usually refrain.

It bothers me that I didn't catch it first, since I obsessively proofread my posts before I submit them.

I don't correct others unless they specifically ask. I consider myself to be fairly good at proofreading and don't mind doing it as a favor.

That being said, I often see the behavior that you are talking about, as a poor attempt to shut down an arguement by distracting your focus and attacking your credibility.

on the one hand mistakes bug me but on the other i know my posts are full of errors so live and let live my writings like a stream of conciousness but unless you can't work it out im fine with that

I use my Phone to make some posts, and many comments. my fingers are too big for the small letters on it, so I've made quite a few blunders.
I assume others have that same problem as well, so I really just don't sweat it at all.

Im ok with everything except "irregardless"

I don’t correct others’ grammar and others don’t correct me. Probably because I’m perfect, lol. Drives the kids’ grandmother crazy, SHE sure likes to correct their grammar. I really don’t see what the big deal is as long as people can communicate.

I no same berry intelligence persons ain't well spellers and there rightings are badly. But that their is just life. Watts badly tiday are exceptable tommorow.

One thing I know for sure. Reading the internet has wrecked my grammar and to some degree spelling. I used to be all uppity about those things until I had a kid with dyslexic tendencies and a punctured ear drum.
Now I can tell a lot of mistakes are a result of someone just having heard things wrong forever.
In my other world people get all wound up about mispronunciations & spelling. Just a couple of days ago they're all stroking their egos and venting over the term "The National" vs "Nationals".
Saying you're going to "The Nationals" makes them go split pea.
So I watch them have this schadenfreude over the correct way to say things and how smart they all are. LOL
And yeah, a lot of them are intelligent life, but they also look like dicks who are just repeating the mangulations of the hearing impaired and dyslexic.

It's when people put themselves on a pedestal and murder english to boot that sets a proper stage for mockery, otherwise I've a whole other outlook on this issue than when I was younger.
