I think the answer is to be unabashedly vulnerable, like you're sensitive and open, but people are still too intimidated by you to use it against you because you know it's not actually a weakness. Like, oh I put my trust in you and you dicked me over, so now I'm supposed to not trust people? No, I'm not the one who needs to be told about themselves and made to slink back into my box. I love my vulnerable parts, and it seems that the only way to be able to keep them is to be overtly protective about them, so everyone knows "You fuck this person over but claim to be their friend, and you'll feel shittier than you've ever felt, which you should, because you don't fuck over people you care about." You don't even have to see it happen. If you tell a bad person about themselves, usually, they suspected it, and when you confirm their worse nightmares, it leads to dark places mentally, but some come out of it much stronger and more moral people, so we should certainly be vulnerable, and we should certainly culturally reinforce the notion that it's not to be taken advantage of.

I was married to a woman who was totally unable to let herself be vulnerable. She did not give a damn about anyone but herself and her blood relatives. She had zero empathy and used and abused people. She had a need to control so that she would not be vulnerable.. She was not open to new learning or trying to improve herself. Needless to say, marrying her was the biggest mistake I ever made.

If a person is to grow, to find any real joy in life, he or she must be willing to be vulnerable.
