I spent time in Naval intelligence (I know the oxymoron joke) and studied a lot about North Korea. I worry about playing politics with a loaded gun. Yes, we can wipe them off the map, but using conventional forces at what a cost. They have a 2 million man military and 2 million man reserve. If they were to attack the South, hundreds of thousands could or would die before we could launch our first counter attack. Also, their leader is perceived as a god, which means people will believe in a righteous cause. Curious what others think. Under Bill Clinton the nuclear program went in hold for ten years because Clinton used bribes - about 380 million dollars in heating oil, which was US refined oil and in a sense along with a bribe to stop nuclearization a help to the oil companies and their employees. I don't have an answer, now that the North has a bomb. So, I am asking for suggestions. Go back to bribery; militaristic threats, which, I personally think will fail; accept and move on like we did with Pakistan; or any other ideas. I bring this up in an agnostic site because Un, their leader, is perceived as a god and that makes things even more dangerous.

The North Korean situation is indeed an exercise in frustration. How do you help a country that doesn’t value the lives of its citizens and let’s them starve while you feed your military? How do you find common ground with a dictator who is not above fratricide to consolidate power, even though the threat was minimal? I don’t have any answers, although I know appeasement historically usually leads to failure as well.

And it is getting worse; even the army isn't as well fed. Their 1% live in luxury while the nation starves or gets placed in work camps. 3 generations punishment for crimes, so whole families are locked up. Unlike our 1%, theirs needs to worry about being fed to hungry dogs. And, our so called commander in chief (note lower case) is making things worse. Since his "wonderful" and "outstanding" meeting, which intelligent people know failed, the Chinese are pretty much ignoring any sanctions.

President Obama told trump NK and Kim were the most pressing problems. I don't have an idea and I'm glad it's not in my lap. Just wish there was a smarter guy in the WH.

You bring up several good points. I think this is probably one of the stickiest political wickets the world has ever faced. I don't believe anyone has a good handle on this one.
