When we moved to Hendersonville, NC about 4 years ago, one of the first things I did was subscribe to the Times News. After a few months I decided to cancel the paper as I felt that it was just a little too religious. On Sundays the paper had a religious section as well.

When my wife passed away we only had a few friends. The first thing out of their mouth was, "God only gives you as much as you can handle." I wasn't nasty, I didn't tell them that there is no god.

So this morning before work, my Son in law, Chris took the dogs out for a walk in the Garden. He slipped in the mud and broke his ankle. An ambulance came and picked him up ad took him to the Hospital.

An hour later they operated on his ankle but the leg they were able to put back in place. He needs a cast half way up his leg.
My daughter Amy was crying and my other daughter Stacy and I were trying to comfort her. The nurses came in with more quotes from the bible

Gag. Notice how prayer is always in addition to the medical treatment given? If they believed prayer worked there would be no need for any other treatment. However prayer is offered as an additional treatment, just in case I suppose that the medical treatment is not enough. Ughh. I suppose then if the patient gets well , god will be given credit, not the doctors and nurses

It is just people who do not understand the human species or mother nature. They must have a purpose that results in favor with a god they believe in. There is no reason except for need. I for one could not live in an area that is religious, it is too stifling for me to function. I enjoy thinking about reality and not a fake god.

@JoelLefkowitz agreed, I did it four a decade and was quite respectful, Flipped the house and did well, now live in the country in the center of TRump world. but for me I am happy, Everyone knows I am a nice atheist, liberal man.

@JoelLefkowitz What do you mean take you for a fool, I do not get it. San Antonio is in Pasco County close to St Leo College. And for some reason I could not get the equal sign in. I tried but no go.

Be careful around the hospital especially the ICU. In Gainesville ga they have a gang of preachers they go room to room praying, you have a very limited time with your loved one every 4 hours and you shouldn't have to fight them off in the process, I said something about them and the one that came in during our 30 minutes, I had to wait 4 days until the patient was taken off the ventilation machine before I could go back, then I was treated like shit buy even the doctors.

But religion is about love and peace and tolerance. I don't understand why they treated you that way. Lol.

We all need to stop being polite. Perhaps if there was some way to indicate to these people that we neither want or need their platitudes, no matter how well intentioned. Lacking that, sarcasm and rudeness have been effective for me...

That is very true. One response I have started to give is
" I respect you too much to respect your ridiculous belief"

I swear it makes them feel better to say it regardless what we believe.

Why do those who allegedly believe in science also feel that there is more, aka god or jc? I'd tell them to shut up and treat the person.
