A large number of people say that math is a waste of a student's energy. That is wrong thinking. There are many examples that demonstrate this, but none of them are more important than the pizza problem.
You get more pizza with a single 18" pizza than you get with two 12" pizzas.
A = pi x r^2
pi x 9^2 = 254 in^2 in a single 18" pizza
2 x pi x 6^2 = 226 in^2 in two 12" pizzas
Do you need anything more to bring home the idea that knowledge of math is an existential necessity?

Can you point me to anyone let alone a large number of people who say math is a waste of a student's energy? Sorry I've never heard of such a thing. But I do know of pizza and I always tell them to cut it into 6 pieces because I can't eat 8.

I wonder how many people have taken the time to apply algebra , to the area of their potential pizzas to determine which had more , then continued to mathmaticly evaluate the price of the area , to decide which was the better deal ?

I know down to the nearest farthing per square millimeter. It is critical.
@evidentialist I didn't think farthings were still in use . I know pennies , shillings , and pounds , but rarely hear farthings mentioned .
