Garland wasn't even as liberal as he could've been. he was middle of the road. obama chose him because he erroneously thought that some republicans might not have gone completely insane. you can't blame him for hoping!

He’d have been a sensible choice. Obama had always been willing to meet with moderation, what he met was obstruction & extremism. The Republican party had been looking towards it’s end, so they pulled all the stops… One last radical gamble..

They think they won... My hope can be summarized by the acclaimed words of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” Let that terrible resolve flow on the First Tuesday of every November in the USA from this point forward ~

yep, Garland was actually touted by many republicans as an acceptable judge, they simply refused to appoint anyone Obama selected. By Poll, he would have been approved pretty easily.

yes. the entire ruse of denying a hearing was because he knew he'd have defectors on the vote.
