Do you think we understand the new generations? Is there such a thing as inter-generational dissonance, or distrust of millennials? Are they any different then we were at that age?

Of course they are different! It's a completely different world that what it used to be... But that is true throughout history. Kids need different skillsets today to cope with a different world than we had. WE need different skillsets too... Adapt and overcome!

As a mother of young adults, I think that while there seem to be skills that are no longer much in vogue, there are also NEW skills that we might not yet see the outcome of. I really think generational wars have always been and almost always underestimate the young to some degree. Time will tell.

Interesting question. I work amid ‘Millennials,’ and am the father of a couple as well.. Recently had the crew hanging on my every utterance regarding ‘what I thought of them.’ Having raised my own, along with their friends, I’m pleased and impressed. And no, they’re of course no different than we’d have been under the same circumstances.

What puzzles me is the extent to which they doubt themselves. But they’ve also grown up corporate, bombarded with consumptive propaganda. And, they’re so well educated … with oppressive college debt to prove it.. With that education, they’re aware of the conflict between what they’re told/ shown they ‘should have,’ and why they don’t actually need it…

They are confused, and will likely sift out as my generation did; the best attempting to live simple productive lives, appreciating their many opportunities -- the rest, becoming corporate automatons..

I think millennials are very different to my generation - they seem to have a greater self-assurance that the world doesn't have to be the way it is and that they can change it for the better. We talked about it; I'm hopeful that millennials are actually going to do it. I wish them all the best.
