Hello everyone. Former Mormon here. 30 long years! Was seduced by the dark side 10 years ago and have never felt better. Drop by and say hello.

Welcome to the Dark Side. We have cookies!!!!

...always wonder what the neighbor’s think when I burst out laughing..

@Varn If your neighbors can hear you laughing, you need better insulated walls! That, or close your windows!!! LOL

Glad you were able to escape. I escaped the Catholic church as soon as I was 18 (parents forced me to go until then).

Congrats on getting out of that. I had a good friend years ago who was Mormon. She was a great girl, but she some of her beliefs were a little out there. She got married and we lost touch, but I still wonder about her from time to time.
Welcome to the jungle!

What dark side? Religion is on the dark side. (Post EnLIGHTenment side).

Welcome. This is the enlightened side. When you quit the Mormons do they shun you like the Amish?

I think my experience leaving the LDS church was more akin to leaving Scientology that it was to leaving the Amish: my family was definitely encouraged to disconnect from me and be hostile to me, but it’s more of a cultural thing. LDS church leaders are careful not to put something like that in the doctrine for fear of a PR nightmare.

Although I’ll be the first to say that that’s one of the inherent problems with the LDS/Mormon faith: the line between Mormon culture an actual Mormon doctrine is very blurry, and even members at the highest levels can’t tell the difference. (more on that some other day.) I believe that it all stems from the cognitive dissonance that Mormons experience as a result of being taught contradictory and conflicting doctrines (for example: β€œlove the sinner but hate the sin” in regards to homosexuality.)

Suffice it to say, my mom has mostly come to terms with the fact that I won’t be joining her in the celestial kingdom, but my brother is still having a difficult time with it: when I initially left I received long-winded emails from him about how I’m damning my kids to eternal hell, etc. etc.

Like many Christian faith systems, Mormons are all smiles and sunshine on the outside, but living a life of turmoil and doubt and frustration and prejudice, not so far below the surface.

@Alberto72 Thank you for that explaination. That last sentence can also apply to illegal immgrants, children living with a bi-polar parent, alcoholic/drug abusing parent(s), an extremely ill parent but of course with the religion aspect it is EVEN more disorienting.

Oooohhhhh..... I'm telling Moroni!!!! Not really because he's made up lol

@Alberto72 no worries we have all believe something ridiculous at some point.

Hi there!

Fellow 30+ years active Mormon myself - been officially out of the church (by choice) for a little over two years now.
It’s amazing how much more happy and peaceful I am, after abandoning a belief system that purports to give you happiness and peace.
...sounds like we should compare some notes ?
