For over a year, I've had my passport renewal application sitting on my desk. In the back of my mind, there is that thought that if things really get bad in teh U.S., I could flee to Canada (no passport needed to enter), and without a passport they wont' let me come back, and that seems like it would not be such a bad thing to me....
