Ricky Gervais -- "I am an agnostic atheist" ...

And I love his discussion of atheism with Stephen Colbert (another of my favs regardless of his faith)

I once knew someone who was an Agnostic Agnostic. He didn't know if he was an agnostic or not.

Great interview, thanks for sharing. It is nice to see a friendly debate between a theist and an atheist🙂

Please, explaIn to me what do you mean by "agnostIc -atheIst" sInce the fIrst one means you are not sure god exIsts / doesn't... And the second means "god doesn't exIst".

@AMGT Agnostinc means "I don't know if god exists / doesn't....and Atheist means "No god." Period.

@AMGT Perfect.

@Paul628 Indeed...LOL

@AMGT I'm with ya. Agnostic = knowledge. No one knows.

Atheism = Lack of belief in a god(s). I never make a positive claim that there is no god. That leaves the burden of proof squarely on the theist's shoulders.

Do we need the chart? Gnosticism and agnosticism speak to knowledge of whatever the subject is. Theism and atheism speak to the belief of god(s). The gnostic theist says, “I believe in god(s) and I know it/they are real.”
The agnostic theist says, “I believe in god(s), but I don’t know if it/they are real.”
The gnostic atheist says, “I don’t believe in god(s) and I know it/they are not real.”
The agnostic atheist says, “I don’t believe in god(s), but I’m don’t know if it/they are real or not.”

People who claim agnosticism have not yet answered the entire question.
The claimed agnostic says. “I don’t know if there’s a god(s) or not.” Well, ok, but do you practice a religion or not? Do you believe a god exists?

Atheist is a stupid word that should be stricken from our vocabulary. The word only makes sense to me in two ways. It is being used by a theist in a pointless condescending bullying tactic or in a manner of wishful thinking since atheist sounds a lot like a theist. We add an "a" to the beginning of words to show that they exist without the presence of something so it doesn't make sense to put an "a" in front of a theist. They can only believe by utilizing faith which is the absence of thought. If anything, we should call theists athinkers before we call ourselves atheists.

@AMGT No...but I am the person who enjoys sarcasm and the reactions it causes.
