This is what I have accomplished while I've been not working. Oldest daughter's birthday present.

That is beautiful. A couple of my girlfriends are coaxing me into taking up quilting. Your work is inspiring!

That's beautiful! I've done some small quilting, mostly pillows. Do you have a special machine that does the squiggly quilting stitches?

I take my quilt tops to a local shop to be machine quilted. A long arm quilting machine costs upwards of $10,000, and requires nearly a whole room dedicated to it. I don't have those resources. So there are a few shops in my local area that offer this service. The one I usually use has about 6 long arm machines, the batting, backing, thread, they offer classes so you can do it yourself, and they have other supplies. I think the quilting charge was reasonable, if I had to do it by hand I'd never be finished.

@HippieChick58 That's a great idea!

Your quilt is gorgeous! Well done.I love the angles and color contrast. How big is it? How long did it take you to make?

I made all of daughter Claire's clothes from ages four to 11. The model for girl's clothes was Madonna. I didn't want my girl looking like a mini-whore or a walking Disney advertisement.

Claire is a little furnace. So I made her soft, breathable cotton clothes with deep pockets for rocks, frogs, etc. I wanted her to move and feel comfortable. Made matching scrunchies for her ponytail.

My big plan was to make Claire a quilt for college, using cutout scraps from clothes I made her. But as a teenager, Claire was such a stinker, she didn't deserve a quilt.

Now I've downshifted to a crib quilt. Claire got married in September 2018. She and Matt want to start a family in two years.

Here's Claire at her 7th birthday party in new outfit I made her. My half-Latina girl was a gypsy for Halloween at 6-1/2.

The quilt is about 66 X 76, big lap size. I've had the fabric for years, it was in a box in a closet. When I discovered it I decided to make quilts for all my daughters and purchased more fabrics. I've done three with the HSTs, different layouts for each of my girls for their next birthdays. So I started cutting and sewing months ago. When I stopped working on Sept 7th I made finishing the quilts a priority. I used to make lots of clothing for the girls Next quilt is for the granddaughter who will be moving to a twin bed in a few months, it will have rainbow stripes on it.

@HippieChick58

The clothes you made for your girls are beautiful! I love the blue dresses.

You have great taste and exquisite sewing skills.

Wish we lived closer. I have no idea how to make a quilt. Sigh.

@LiterateHiker There are so many online resources! I had forgotten how to miter the corners of the bias binding so I had to take time to view the you tube videos so many talented quilters have put out there. I am amazed at all the resources out there. When I was starting there were a few on PBS, now it has exploded! I love to sew, I've been sewing since I was big enough to reach both the sewing machine and the speed pedal. I started quilting in 1992. I took a class called Quilt In a Day, and I was hooked. I made a log cabin quilt, my introduction to strip quilting.

Beautiful....what a talent you have. I’m sure your daughters will cherish them.

Is it crewel or a hook rug?

It is a quilt, each of those triangles is a piece of fabric. It is only on the floor so I could get a good picture. It is a large lap sized quilt, perfect for watching TV on cool nights.

@HippieChick58 It's beautiful; you put a lot of stitches in it. My grandmother made quilts.
