Conservatives, What is it that you don't like about people that are liberals, progressive or social Democrats? Rumor has it they are terrible people that are out to ruin your lives but I'm not understanding the viewpoint.

I have found over almost 57 years that conservatives are borrow-and-spend, under-educated bullies, strong on defense and they want everyone to look out for themselves because, you know, you live in the greatest country on Earth and you have freedom! "Don't worry... The church can help you with that!"

Liberals are tax-and-spend, over-educated, whiny assed pussies who always want to build some sort of consensus because, you know, we all get along better if we all agree. They usually get slaughtered while consensus building then want to whine about it all day! "Don't worry, we have a program for that!"

On every political plotter I end up as Libertarian... But I do not identify as Libertarian because most Libertarians I have talked to or watched are batshit crazy.

I have always voted for the person, regardless of party. Except this time.... I am voting straight Democrat down the line in an effort to out the Chump out of office!

I'll take a crack at this one.

Conservatives hate liberals because conservatives do not grasp the fact that the sustained success of the individual does not happen until the group succeeds. They lack a sense of community and never grow past the childhood development stage where everything is MINE!, MINE!, MINE!

Conservatives believe that they can horde wealth and posessions and that these things will maintain their value even if the rest of society collapses in to chaos and discord. It needs to be noted at this point that they are incorrect, because the value of money and possessions depends upon commerce, which moves wealth and possessions from place to place and individual to individual. Put simply, when a few individuals hold on to most or all posessions and wealth, no commerce exists because the majority of the population holds no purchasing power, and the supply side of the economy crashes down on its own weight. Everybody loses, both wealthy and poor.

Conservatism is a hordeing disorder, and anybody with a hordeing disorder becomes extremely defensive when they believe that someone is coming to take all of the junk they've accumulated. Even when all that junk is beginning to attract rats, dry rot, black mold and disease. So when liberals talk about distributing wealth more evenly in order to provide a more stable economy, it's a scary proposition to a conservative. Not only do they not want to give up SOME of their junk for the greater good, they don't want ro give up ANY of it. Regardless of the damage they are causing. Even if it means saving them from themselves.

I find topics like this interesting.. as I didn't take long for people to talk past each other instead of to each other .. has the divide become that large we are unable to even connect on some basics?

Yup

Although I may not be qualified to answer this question, as I don't identify with being conservative -- in fact I detest the term -- I will give an answer anyway, since I am a member of the Conservative Atheists Singles group, the Republican Atheists group, and the Libertarian Agnostics group. I joined those groups because I do share some of their values.

I wouldn't say that I don't like all of the people who are "liberal", "progressive" or "Social Democrats." Some of my friends are members of leftist political parties and are reasonable, intelligent and open to discussing ideas without anger and hatred, which is more than I can say for some of my friends on the "right." But, I don't like most of what the leftist political parties advocate. And, I don't like much of what the current political "right" advocates either.

My fundamental disagreement with both sides of the currently defined political spectrum is that they share the same morality -- altruism. They just differ in how much and who is to be sacrificed. My viewpoint is that the purpose of morality is to guide my life and what is moral is that which is good for my long-term flourishing. And, I believe that the purpose of government should be the protection of individual rights -- nothing else -- not redistributing income, not protecting us from ourselves, and not telling us what to think.

" And, I believe that the purpose of government should be the protection of individual rights -- nothing else -- not redistributing income, not protecting us from ourselves, and not telling us what to think."

Has there been any successful civilizations where that has worked?
My point is, I believe humans are to much like herd animals for that to happen, and especially as our population grows..

@hippydog "Has there been any successful civilizations where that has worked?" I guess it depends on how success is defined. I think the civilization that came the closest to my ideal would be the USA during the second half of the nineteenth century, especially in the north. The closest in modern times are probably Hong Kong and Singapore. What I have noticed through history is that the closer a nation is to my ideal, the more prosperous the nation is, and the further from that ideal, the less prosperous.

@sfvpool Singapore? thats interesting.. great GDP, one the unhappiest places to live..

" I guess it depends on how success is defined."
i guess so! for me , a large GDP is not a successful society.. just a successful economy..

It comes down to racism sadly. Liberals, progressive and social Democrats believe in diversity. Conservatives fear the browning of America-RACISTS.

The viewpoint you describe is pure false, demagogic bull shit! manufactured by reactionaries trying to con the public.

@maturin1919 ditto.. I have acquaintances who literally have that viewpoint.

@maturin1919 To be realisti c, one should never expect a reactionary demagogue to be truthful.

@maturin1919 Yes, some demagogic and reactionary ideologues do hold such opinions. But, how they arrive at such erroneous conclusions is NOT irrelevant. It IS the point for reasoning people.
