I was waiting to get into dialysis, when I saw an old man wearing a Christian messaged hat. Please see the illustration below.

God is good, always. Here this guy was, about to wait for a a treatment which could last for four hours. He would have two big needles stuck in his arm, and have to lie very still for the entire treatment. He would have nothing to do but watch TV or sleep. It was at 5:30 AM on a cold, wet Saturday morning.

God is good, always. I started laughing out loud. Thankfully no one noticed. I didn't have the time or inclination to explain the concept of irony.

Simple: god is either totally powerless or a real asshole. Or more likely, just doesn't exist.

Wipe out every thing but the big D and the hat might be appropriate for him.

God has a great gig if you can get it: everything that goes right, he gets 110% credit for; anything bad is irrelevant, the work of Satan, or the regrettable effects of individual or corporate sin. Or more simply, anything bad that happens to you is all your fault somehow. If Satan did it, it's only because you somehow "gave him place" or caught off-guard; if it's your unlucky lot to be part of some national or tribal or family unit that god is unjustly judging corporately, then even there you lack the exceptional virtue to experience god's mercy in the midst of judgment.

I never on my best day in theism could defend such notions, and I certainly am glad to be relieved of my association with them.
