Yet another mass shooting and still this country does NOTHING about the gun issue. There's no reason any law-abiding civilian should be allowed to own an assault rifle. Full stop. End of conversation.

Get mad all you want, but you can't deny the fact that when Australia and the UK confiscated guns the mass shootings stopped. The Second Amendment was written in a time when all we had were muskets, not AR-15s or 47s. So the "right" to own an assault rifle is on shaky ground at best.

At the end of the day your "right" to an assault rifle doesn't trump everyone else's right to go about their daily lives without having to be afraid of being shot at. My son should not have to be afraid of going to school because the NRA refuses to come to the table and compromise by turning in their guns. It's simple.

There are several reasons anyone should be able to own an "assault rifle" but in most cases they choose semi auto weapons. Several times throughout history shortly after being disarmed people have been rounded up and massacred. If you would like specific examples I would gladly entertain. Start with Germany prior ww2 since that is where many of our gun laws we already allowed came from.

First - the recent shooting in California was done with a pistol. Second - the cops came out earlier to evaluate his mental facilities and did NOTHING! Thrid - the Second Amendment is there for self-defense, resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concert in defense of the state, none of which can be done with a muzzle-loader effectively. I don't think outlawing assault rifles will make them unavailable to the public. As far as you fearing for you son's safety at school, how about we hold these government mandated education camps actually responsible for PROTECTING and EDUCATION our children while there are there?

It is much simpler than that...guns kill people effectively. It is why we invented them. We needed a faster more effective way to kill other humans as we conquered and expanded territory. Until we can move beyond the fear everyone is out to get us I am afraid that guns are never going away in the US like most of the world. I understand in the US that is not going to happen anytime soon but the Constitution is not a locked document. An amendment is a change to a document...so the 2nd can be changed or even removed but people have to want to.

As an outsider living in the US it is amazing how a country perceived to be the most powerful in the world is ruled by fear and it's citizens buy into it. Ironic to say the least.

Guns the great equalizer. Turns every David into a Goliath
(sorry for the shitty biblical reference but seems appropriate)

I believe in the right to bear arms... But only for a particular legal purpose... Not civilians owning assault rifles...

@JesseThompson why all these references to foreign countries... That's weird... I'm American... I'm referring to Americans... Assault rifles are made to assault not to hunt... Civilians don't need them except if they want to kill many people quickly...

@JesseThompson I don't know about Kent university... Tell me about it...

@JesseThompson that's 20 years before I was even born! How is that relevant?!

@JesseThompson smarter than what? That actually occurred almost 50 yrs ago.. If that's relevant let's consider that assault rifles didn't exist when we were given the right to bear arms...

@Veteran229 those were dictatorships... We are not... No go buddy...

@Veteran229 so go buy one and hunt some chickens or a goat or even a cow... Ludicrous lol

@Veteran229 I'm surprised at you.. Just because someone says something doesn't make it true. Leftists can call trump a poor little baby... We know it's not true... Ludicrous... ?

@Veteran229 but doing so in a discussion where it's irrelevant is just nonsense.. Doesn't make you look as though you know what you're talking about...

@Veteran229 as I stated before... Saying something doesn't make it true.. I disregarded no history here.. I acknowledged it and deemed it irrelevant to the current topic...

@JesseThompson What the fuck are you even talking about?

@JesseThompson Unfortunately you are not smarter than her or any other mammal on this planet.

@Sticks48 thank you so much... I thought I was alone..

@Cutiebeauty No you are not.

@JesseThompson wow! Really, wow.. I have not been emotional here at all.. And this discussion has nothing to do with authority figures baby.. And when I say baby, I mean baby .. Understand.. ?

@JesseThompson logic 101 at a supermarket near you. Twisty.. Lol

@JesseThompson reasonably? You just said I was drunk ?! That's your idea of reasonable.. Really? Great come back... Bye bye donut...

I'd like to respond to your statement in two ways: first, as a reasonable human being then as a right wing gun nut.

1. I couldn't agree more. There's no valid excuse for anyone other than an active duty soldier or a law enforcement professional to own or use a combat grade assault weapon. Civilians shouldn't be permitted by law to own one and violators should be stiffly fined and harshly punished.

2. Keep your filthy libtard hands off my guns! My Constitutional RIGHT to own a gun includes ALL guns including assault weapons! The 2nd Amendment was written by GOD himself and will NOT be challenged by you gun control pussies! LONG LIVE THE NRA!!

You are either reasonable or ridiculous depending on which response most closely aligns with your own.

@JesseThompson You're a Number 2...in more ways than one.

@JesseThompson *see previous reply.

@JesseThompson I have had potted plants smarter than you.

I'm from Montana. People around here have guns, but they keep them to themselves. Mostly hunters and ranchers have them and they use them as tools like a shovel or a rake back East.

I spent some time in Montana back in the late 1990s. It's a beautiful state.
