I am posting this article primarily because of the mention in it of Bethany Hamilton. Bethany was attacked by a shark while surfing off Kauai, HI, several years ago. She was fortunate to get away with only the loss of her left arm. But she is an indomitable, competitive pro surfer, and still on the pro circuit, despite her disadvantage. I was privileged to see her out surfing at Hanalei Bay on my last trip to Kauai. She is truly a remarkable young woman. Her story can be seen/read in Soul Surfer, an account of the incident and her struggle to recover; quite inspirational.
