They made a really astonishing find on The Curse of Oak Island. They found the tip of a Roman Javelin that has been dated from 1 BC to around 5 or 6 AD. And they're still searching.

I've been watching these guys from Michigan since Day 1. Caught it a couple of weeks ago. A lot of civilizations in that Money Pit.

You’d think there would be several other artifacts found in the area as well? Just sayin’...

There probably will be since they just started the search of that particular lot this season.

@sewchick57 nice! Let us know if we get some coins or something verifiable turn up

@Geoffrey51 They've already found several coins and a couple of broaches.

I used to watch that show but to be honest it got pretty boring.

This will need some seriously convincing proof if it's to be taken seriously. A far more likely explanation as to how the artifact came to be on Oak Island than a Roman presence or taken there by Vikings is that it was hidden there far more recently. The people who seem at first glance most likely to want to do something like that are perhaps Marty and Rick Lagina who appear in The Curse Of Oak Island, own a controlling interest in Oak Island Tours (and thus also own most of the island) and are, presumably, doing quite well for themselves thanks to what treasure hunters and pseudo-archaelogists are willing to pay to investigate the island. Nothing like a good sensationalist claim to bring in a few more dollars!

I tried watching the program but I'm dubious of it. They seem to find things with no common era or culture which makes me wonder if they're just artefacts found by production assistants on Craigslist or something lol. Still good entertainment though.

Not too surprising--Romans and Vikings fought one another and Vikings certainly were in what's now Nova Scotia.

There's about 500 years difference between the Roman Empire and the Viking Raiding period. The empire did face raids from tribal cultures but none of them were the Norse, Rus, or Danes that we collectively know as Vikings today.

@GrantSmith Clearly this would have been an artifact of value...traded across cultures/time/space. I'm thinking of an artifact found in Brazil...with an elephant image. How'd it get there? Out of time? Space? I always think we don't give our ancestors enough credit for getting around...traveling...exploring...and (unfortunately) conquering.

@LucyLoohoo that's a lot of conjecture and assumptions with little evidence. Much like the show really.

( waiting for all of the history channel haters to show up )
Yeah I saw that and if it is the treasure of the knights templar then it would have something like considering that they excavated the area believed to be Solomon’s tomb and considering that the romans were in Jerusalem around that time they might’ve grabbed it thinking that it could’ve been the spear of destiny.
But we’ll see what else they get up

Actual history buffs fact check the History Channel. Any entity whose primary goal is ratings is capable of spinning facts to boost them.

@Deb57 Good for them I just wish that people would do the same with their news ?

@Bierbasstard Easy now everyone’s rushing to get to mars are they not?

@Bierbasstard

@Bierbasstard I actually pissed a writer for National Geographic off like to where I thought we were going to get kicked out of bar because I kept questioning everything he said history channel shit.

But the final straw for him was when threw it in his face who discovered that Hitler didn’t die in Germany. ???
