I hear a lot of people talk about forgiveness making them feel better. But, aren't a lot of things unforgivable?

I understand the different perspectives and agree with many. Maybe it's the word itself I have a problem with. Forgiveness has to many religious overtones for me. Beg Gods forgiveness or burn in hell..
