Recent website updates - long list of new features!

If you are open to dating, you might have noticed that some thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This helps you identify which members are open to dating as the percent shows approximately how compatible you are with them. If you click the heart symbol on the top of their profile, you can see how it is determine. You can improve your score in general by answering all the profile questions and writing a bio.

You can now tag friends when you make comments or replies to comments. Just put a ‘@‘ symbol in front of their username (e.g., @admin) and we will make a link to their profile and send them a notice.

You can also link to a post by putting ‘q:number’ in your posts where ‘number’ is what you see in the URL (e.g., to link to agnostic.com/discussion/123/blah-blah-blah you, put q : 123 but without the spaces around the colon and you'll get "Any suggestions on how to inoculate children from religion?").

We also updated the chat/messenger system to fix bugs and make it faster.

Until we finalize the email alert daily digest, we made it so you will get a maximum of one alert email every 6 hours.

You can now select which alerts you’d like to receive as well as choose what appears on your profile page by going to your profile settings page (the right-most tab on your edit profile page).

As this is a big list of changes in the last week or so, there will probably be a few bugs. Let us know by either messaging me directly or post a question or use contact form. Hope you like the changes. We are working hard to make this site fun.

Well, I am open for dating . . . Too bad local women are NOT open to date me!!!

It might be fun to add a "chat room" feature which allows video chats with other users. There are java programs that are made specifically for this purpose... although the site may be too small as of yet to afford it. (sigh). Even as a nonprofit site I think you will eventually have to accept soem ads to be self supporting....

Still, I like that every few days or so, I can re-explore the site and find newly added stuff.

Congratulations! Feels more like home here now.

@admin Since the update my chat message logs now all say "obsolete". Attempting to send a new message initially displays the correct text but, upon refreshing the page, the text changes to "obsolete." What's going on?

Yep, this just got fix. All text now goes through a pre-processor so we can strip out bad words for people who don't want to see them. The old code just returned "obsolete" but we forgot to check the chat rooms 😟 Sorry.

I also got a lot of that "obsolete" thing . . . almost got into trouble with a girl member because of that.

Great job admin! I haven't been very active lately due to work, but its good to return, and see the changes 🙂 Hopefully there is a filter for duplicate posts . between members.

Duplicate posts? Hmmm... I have seen a number of duplicates recently. Can add some more checks. I'm also concerned about people posting similar things (not bad just clutter). Now that members can link to another post in their comments, maybe that can help.

Has one of the changes been to use a moderator for posts? I noticed my posts are not appearing immediately as the once did.

We've always moderated the posts but were swamped coding these last few days to do it every few hours. We will soon work on a way for people to post more instantly for posts that show up on their profile page. Our goal is to select interesting posts for the main page and let other posts go into categories and on the "all category".

I am glad you asked this question. I was wondering the same thing.

I have also experienced this a lot, plus there seems to be nothing happening at all for a few hours, then suddenly a hoard of posts and comments arrive in one go. Not criticising, just letting you know.

I like all the changes but you didn't give yourselves credit for returning the visitor lists to our profiles, and you added a nearby members list too.
Right on! 😉

Well, hard to take credit for putting back something that we removed but I'll take the compliment. Thanks! We do want to increase the chance of people to meet others organically. Hopefully, seeing nearby members will help.

So do you guys intend to eventually make money off of this site? It's not like I see any ads, so how do you make money?

We have no desire to make money. Our goal is to normalize unbelief by building a large and supportive community of atheists, agnostics, secularists etc. and perhaps help coordinate efforts to change politics. For now, we're just spending on advertising and building. Hopefully, members can help too!
