I have several cases of MREs in the garage, collected over the yrs.
I also usually have plenty of food(canned etc) and water in the house.

Living on a tropical island where a hurricane or tsunami could cut us off from supplies for a time, I have one corner of my apartment reserved for emergency supplies. Not individual MRE's but enough food, water, lighting and cooking supplies to get me through 14 days, as recommended.

I've got one from 1969 that my husband had when he got out of the Army. Think it's any good?????

I've never stored MREs, but I did used to store food and water for an emergency. I've even used it a few times. I've experienced major storms, earthquakes, and fires. I got rid of everything with the last 2 moves. I think that I might stay put for awhile now so maybe it's time to get myself a new supply.

Not a thing . " the good lord will provide " ???????????????

There is Nutella somewhere and always . I will survive , not " like a boss ", but " like a roach "??? I always survive ?

I will probably just die. Unless I can somehow live off chocolate - I do have a stash of that.
I don't even like most canned food.....

This has always been my thought. If things are that bad I might be better off not to be among the living!

No, I always have lots of protein bars on hand. I’d rather eat those.

At some point in time I bought several books on foraging, edible wild plants and being able to live in the wilderness.

Yup... 8 cases... All expired now. Thanks for reminding me to buy something. I bought some a few years after Hurricane Katrina so they are way past their fresh date! I'm thinking dehydrated rice, beans, etc for next go around. You just never know. I am not a prepper but I do like to be at least a little on the prepared side.

@Gooniesnvrdie I used to love the old Vietnam era K and C rations. Pork slices in gravy was my favorite I think. As young boy scouts we had access to Quantico Marine Corps base. We would come across huge caches of Rations where Marines had been on maneuvers and dumped what they had left. We scooped up all of them. With mini packs of cigarettes too! lol

I hope never to eat another MRE. Ugh. Most were gross beyond words.

That said, I have a big garden during the summer and I can/freeze/dehydrate and store lots of what I grow. I also have a good back stock of beans and rice.

MRE- did not know what that stands dfor. Thank you Google. It's the fancy new abbreviation for field rations. No, thank you. I can my own fruit and vegetables every year, even have some 30 year old pickles in the basement. The only stuff I should be stocking is box wine and six packs, but emergencies for those present themselves too often.

What are they?

dehydrated food in a packet. Meals Ready to Eat = MRE. They are gross by the way. LOL

@Amisja perfect reaction to them!!! LOL

I have a 10,000 gallon above-ground pool & bleach (8 drops per quart), and food as canned goods to eat after I empty the freezer by cooking on the propane grill

I still have an unopened 2-quart can of string beans from Y2K. All set.

No. I haven’t touched one since my last field exercise in the Army. I do keep a decent supply of dehydrated backpacking meals on hand in case aI have an emergency need to go for a long hike ?

@Bendog I can grow a little, forage a little.

My provisions did their thing back in the day ...I’ve still got pints of canned salmon, quarts of winter squash, grape juice ..and gallons of dried fruit, but had dumped hundreds of quarts before moving from the earthquake zone you’re in… I didn’t look up ‘MRE’s,’ just took a guess..
