You come to a 4 way stop sign and let the driver on the right go first as is the law in most states. Would you expect that driver to give u some acknowledgement for giving them the right of way?

Expect? No. They aren't beholden to me for following traffic laws. It SHOULD be expected.

Hi there. Your right in tune. Have a nice day.

Nope, you’d only be wasting everyone’s time. And, they had to have arrived at the same time, not simply ‘be to the right.’

I don't expect anything from other drivers except for the unexpected. It may be nice, but why build any expectations of others while only your actions are paramount to your behavior and feelings.

Why? You're SUPPOSED to let them go first.

No. Why, it’s the law.

Not for simply following the law, no I don't expect it or look for it. I'll give them a wave if they have the right of way n seem to be hesitating to tell them to go for it, and if I had to do that then they'll probably wave back but most people just go when they have the right of way and that's plenty fair enough.

In the backroads where I live it's pretty common to give a wave or nod to everyone you pass period, but in town I wouldn't expect a howdy unless I did something voluntary like let them out of a parkinglot or into my lane in heavy traffic. I also still hold doors for either gender if they're within a few paces of me, and prefer to walk on the curbside of a woman.

The younger generation do not seem to know about the curbside walk.

@Marine yeah several generations at this point; Ive seen people 10-20 years older than myself not doing it. Could be ignorance, inconsideration, or could be that the lady is asserting her independence and the guy isnt "with" her like that I guess. But whether youre dating or not just seems like common courtesy to not make a lady walk where cars are whipping by her.

I wave or raise my hand.

Good for you

Yes ,I would

I still open doors for people and let drivers to my right go first. Heck I still walk at the curbside when walking with a woman. In addition, when I receive such right I always will thank the persons who provided them. I find this little gesture to be greatly lacking in our population. It was taught to me by my parents as being polite. They said if you want others to treat u with politeness i should be polite to them.Sometimes it still works.

The other things you mentioned are not laws, just courtesy, which should be acknowledged.

@Nor48 In Ct at a 4way stop it is the law if you both arrive at the same time the driver on rt has the roght of way. This also the law in Ohio.
