Am I the only one who has noticed a marked decrease in civility in comments on posts recently? I joined in April of last year and it seems to me that comments have become more shrill and discourteous since then.

Perhaps because of the increase in membership and the fact that people are essentially anonymous, there is less concern for social niceties. I personally don't want to be harangued about how I should behave or believe.

I am more than willing to read about other people's ideas and beliefs, but when they insist that I should change my life to match theirs, I simply block them. I was here for months before I blocked anyone, but the number keeps rising.

Do others feel the tone of the site has changed? How do you feel about it?

It seems a lot more catty lately, like Facebook. Sad. I really enjoyed when things were more civil.

That's definitely a maybe....
I think people keep developing skills to come up with a response as opposed to just using the like button.

I have been here about 10 months and it seems the same to me. I the first six months l blocked believers , male bashers, female bashers, gun nuts, trumpsters, and drama queens. Now it has settled into scammers and trolls. I have been blocked and couldn't care less.

I get that. I posted a fact, without an opinion on somebody's thread. They called me a moron then blocked me. Lol.
If facts bother people we have serious problems.

I also joined in April and haven't noticed much difference. I think it's always been that way, The site seems to be more focused on growth than removing the bad apples.

I never lock anyone. Liberty and freedom of speech gives everyone the right to be as idiotic and insane as they wish to be. The rudest comments can be quite entertaining.

I'm a new member. The people I've had some issues with have been in their 70s and 80s. A 71 year old woman sent me a snotty message and then blocked me. I had addressed her as "ma'am" and she told me I was a bitch.

I have to chuckle since I'm the one complaining and I fall into that age group!

I am not getting the blocking around here. I can't see anything from that woman who blocked me but I get notifications that's she's commenting about me. I blocked a man who was being really obnoxious to me (in his 80s I think) but I can see his profile and see his activity.

@ladyprof70 I've never seen so many older people on any social media site. I left a Baby Boomers group because everyone was way older than me.

i have been here since august. i have not blocked anyone - which leaves me curious as to who has blocked me.

@maturin1919 have you been watching me? ?

I don't know, I think that civility remains in certain arenas but overall society has become so much more relaxed in the manner in which they speak. Obviously, thst is mirrored here. I always try to model the conduct I expect in others and try to ignore the rest. If someone is out and out racist or sexist, then I feel duty bound to comment. I am unlikely to be crass about that. I found when I lived in USA, swearing was really quite matter of fact. I think it is perfectly acceptable to remind people to speak to you respectfully.

I try to stay in touch with the people who play nicely hear and ignore those who do not.
