They are NOT girls. They are WOMEN. Hear me roar!

Had an IT guy today say that he thought that #MeToo didn't really have a Tech presence / footprint because Tech was so male dominated but the fellas there are typically not alpha males.

Had to just hold back a bit and say nothing.

He asked if I've ever seen any of the #MeToo behaviour at work. He's maybe 50 and runs a team of 30 in Banking Technology. I was a little flawed: like - how could he not have seen it? But then - he's a fella and it was a sincere question. Of course - it doesn't happen to him...

Things I don't miss about working in IT.

I wish my previous SO would have been more into computers than having secret lives. We probably would have still been together. What I'd give to have someone who was similar enough that we ultimately didn't bump heads after the romancing period.

I hope you are not one of those men.

I'm not employed in that field (due to my belief that computers - and anything else involving electricity - work by magic), but I can only imagine. I have a close male friend who is a senior software engineer - he's a very, very intelligent guy, and in the past has worked for organisations such as Microsoft, the British military and NASA. He currently works for a company that also employs several seriously shit-hot mathematicians, one of whom is a woman who he rates as by far the most intelligent person he has ever met - and he's often shocked by the amount of mansplaining and casual misogyny he sees her having to deal with.

I hope he is standing up for her.

@Jolanta He does, especially when she's not around to stand up for herself. He also became a vocal supporter of Quinn, Sarkeesian and Wu during Gamergate - a decent guy!

No example? Probably wasnt mansplaining then.

You would say wouldn't you. And if they gave examples you still would not believe it.

Seriously? Can you ever not do that knee jerk, right wing, MRA thing?

Its mansplaining. It is an explanation by a man, typically to a (little) woman in a manner that is regarded as condescending or patronizing.Seriously this is just a joke I'm totally on your side and growing up with strong women in my life I totally get it.You have my sympathies. Please,Please take this as a joke I know it's a real problem.Cheers .

It's not very funny and it's clearly making you nervous af.

@Donotbelieve Not at all I think you misunderstand me I just revised, I was not trying to make light of a real problem just trying to be supportive.I've worked many jobs that were male oriented and I was a manager and understand.I was just trying to be supportive.

@actofdog Not at all. I think you misunderstood me.

I wasn't annoyed or upset by your comment. I'm simply stating facts.

@Donotbelieve O.K. I think sometimes I come off as a different person when I write I am sooo on your side,I fought with the girls as a kid so all our sports were inclusive,my sister was one of the first women in hockey in my city and I always worked for a good working environment when I was in charge, sometimes I try to use jokes and they backfire,I'm glad were good.

@actofdog Sure. My tone is usually level and I stick with facts.

If I were upset, I would clearly state as much.

Your comment is still not funny, though.

@Donotbelieve O.K. Cheers.
