I had something happen Monday night that made me feel great, and I wanted to share.

My youngest daughter Robin, aka Mouse, and I are very close. She's the one I posted about the other day, who's killing it in college. Anyway, I was settling down Monday night about 11:40, when I get a flurry of texts from Mouse begging me to come out with her and her besties to a karaoke bar. At first I was going to laugh it off and decline. Then I thought why not - I'm alone and bored.

But more importantly I realized something. I'm not sure why she wanted me there; but I didn't care. SHE WANTED ME THERE. her DAD. At a bar, on a night out with her girlfriends. How many times will this ever happen, where my adult kid wants to hang out with me so much that she calls begging me to come out? To me, you don't pass up moments like that - I may never get them again.

So, I went - and had a blast. ?

Mouse posted this on FB the next morning.

My daughter and I are close, but she lives on the wrong coast now. When she lived near me, we hung out together often.

One time when we were walking through her neighborhood to a local bar she mentioned that there had been a stabbing at an intersection we were crossing. I asked her if she felt safe walking there in the dark. I felt flattered when she replied, "I feel safe when you're with me."

You must be a good dad but why do you call her mouse. She doesn't look like one to me.

I've called her that since she was born. She popped into this world and into my arms - this precious, teeny thing. Then, she opened these enormous brown eyes and just stared into my soul. Not crying, just staring at me, me at her. She reminded me of those little cartoon mice that were so cute and teeny with the great big eyes.

She's been my Mouse ever since. Our whole family calls her that. I've asked her repeatedly over the years if she wants us to stop, and she says no - he loves it, it makes her feel special and reminds her how much she's loved. Her siblings all had nicknames as well, but hers is the only one that stuck.

This isn't a baby pic, but she is young. You can see those eyes I'm talking about here.

@Geektheist All those kids yours?

@Jolanta yep. All mine.

@Geektheist you been busy

It is so cool if and when you can become buddies and friends with your parents. With my mom it was in my teens, and with dad, in my early twenties. No kids, so I don't know that side of it.

I can't live without my kids. Luckily the kids are close, and I'm close with them. ?

Thank you ?

Daughter must have been mighty proud to have a dad like you and eager to show you off! Great moments!

All her friends call me dad or pops. I love them all, but Mouse has made me mythic in their eyes.

I honestly don't mind. ??

So precious! You're doing something right as a father. Much respect!

This text is from my 17 year-old son who was with his father in Michigan, a few months ago.

A random text out-of-the-blue! Both of my sons treat me so good and truly love me. Some days, I never feel good enough as their mother. I'm a single parent. I guess because there were a few moments I missed out on my sons while I was managing an agency/ office that took too much of my time away from them.

I know they understand, but as a mother, I can't forgive myself. I know that what I was doing was to support them financially and being able to provide a steady and safe life for them.

I know what I did was right, but I can't forgive myself for sacrificing precious time with my sons.

I'll make it up to them by being there for my grandchildren.

You and I are very much alike in that regard. Can't talk now - work - but more later. Lots to say ?

Cherish these moments. They will will live with you forever.

You have no idea how much I do, which is exactly why I went.
