Even some conservatives are becoming disillusioned with Trump. Changing parties to vote in a Democratic or independent race is not unusual nor unheard of.

No sir I don’t assume anything but I do remember watching thousands of people who wanted to cast their votes for Bernie Sanders in Virginia and were cast away for not being a registered democrat.

And this is for primary elections anyway but if you want I can look to see if there’s States where gerrymandering has possibly altered your voting district.
