SCOTUS declines to hear NJ case of grant money going to churches.
A lower court ruled that NJ violated a constitutional prohibition when it gave thousands of historic preservation dollars to churches.
I'm torn about this ruling.
As an atheist, I'm glad no public monies are going to churches.
As a historic preservationist, I'm sad--many of these old churches are magnificent in their architecture and furnishings, and losing them means losing significant history, both in terms of design and in terms of development of the community.

So we let our bias get in the way of history or we can just appreciate the fact that at least during certain times in our history the church actually did something.
