J. Geils Band - I Do
I once got to stand on the stage for the last half of the show with Peter Wolf video recording because a drummer friend (friend of a friend more accurately) was playing as part of his house band. He gave me his video camera to record the moment for him. I was at the front of the stage and Peter Wolf kept coming over to mug for the camera. I was loving it.
He then reached down and pulled me out of the audience and onto the stage like that one Bruce Springsteen video. I spent the rest of the show next to the drum kit moving around enough to try to capture all the guys in the house band.
Problem was, my drummer friend had not charged his battery fully. Towards the end, I could get a minute or two, then it'd die. I'd wait and try again for a few more seconds over and over, till it died completely. I just stayed there pretending it worked. It was so awesome to see the best part of the show from behind the singer looking out on the audience in a tiny club in Redondo Beach (The Strand?).
I never got to see the footage. The band watched it with Peter and then he asked that it be erased because the quality was so poor and he didn't want it ever making it out there. I was heartbroken about that part, though I was pretty sure my camera work itself was good.
All in all, it was one of the memories of a lifetime.
Don't you hate it when that happens??
Boy howdy, do I ever. ?
