Truth always comes out it you listen for it and watch long enough. My long time religious friend and I are on the phone and he tells me about his recent visit to the Senior Center. He met a man there that told him he just was not very religious. My friend reminded him that he's not getting any younger and now might be a good time to check out god, church, and religion. Immediately I recognized this as a remark Walter Brennan had once used because he knew he wasn't getting any younger and he might not have much time left.
When I think about it this almost makes me laugh. You are going to fool the all wise and all knowing god because you are seeing your time coming to an end and you don't want to die. It's strange that the religious don't see this exactly that way.
(Using my best Walter Brennan voice): Hee! I'm not getting any younger! No brag, just fact!
This is the same problem as Pascal's Wager -- the notion that an all-knowing god (and hopefully, the "right" or "correct" one that you happen to believe in) won't recognize that you're hedging your bets and don't truly love and worship and obey him.
