I want to bash religion here and in no way am I bashing a fallen country music star. I want to make this clear in the beginning. This is also why I am not using his name, but it can be looked up.

He was making a music video in Houston and a gun that he had in his pocket went off and shot him in the face. This alone would say the gun is not a part of the video. Who is going to come in and harm you while making a music video? I'm older than 35 so my thinking is different. Why carry the gun during this filming?

His mother says "he really loved our god." That's right. She said "our god." In fact, she said he had a bible in his room, one in the den, and another in his truck. At least he wasn't bible shy.

I'm always lost at the ridiculous references to religion and god belief. That makes me equally as lost when I read of this man's passing. Believers always want us to know they are praying about something and that they let their god in on everything they do. In fact, it is god who guides them.

Who knows why he had a gun. I surely do not. Maybe he had a good reason, maybe he didn’t. A man is dead, and it is a tragedy. This much I do know.

Loaded and chambered... Chalk that up to epic fail! "Their God's" intervention perhaps? Even Darwin award?

Although he may have had the "right" to have a gun, citizens are not "supposed" to kill anyone with it. That's illegal to say the least!

There is quite a debate on the merits of carrying with a round chambered. I don’t carry, but I do keep my weapon chambered at home.

Now as to whether you are supposed to kill anyone with a legally owned firearm, you are correct. Though, people do so all the time in self defense and are not charged with any crime.

If god made us in his image why aren't we all invisible?

Yeah, I'm also not bashing. Why have a loaded gun in your friggin' pocket? What's that about? Shootin' roaches in the trailer? And yes, they surely do try to convince everyone of what a bible-totin', god-fearing person he was (or anyone in that position). What's all the mystery for? If a god exists, why not just come on down here and remake Eden? Because it is all just a story. You can't go back to something that never was.

I'll bash him. He was an idiot.
First, for having a gun in his pocket.
Second, for believing in bullshit.

As far as I'm concerned, there's one less idiot in the world. Too bad he couldn't
have taken his idiot mother with him.
I do not "feel bad" when most people die.
I'm grateful they're no longer around taking up space and resources.

Man that's cold as ice...and I'm agreeing completely!!!

@Freespirit64 I'm done with pretending to give a shit when stupid people get themselves killed. I'm also done pretending to give a shit when stupid believers die.
I'm just grateful they've been culled from the herd.

Believing in gods = good person / human in any society apparently . If u can top it w 2-3 bibles or holy books of your taste / whatever , then = super nice person .
" I am a Christian "= I have morals , I am such a giving and forgiving human .
And I am laughing ??? what I am hearing is : I am delusional , I am desperate , I am misinformed , and , if above the age of 35, " I am stupid ".
And I will like to add , " I am careless and harmful " by supporting a system and beliefs that harm humanity , especially women and children , and actually " I am harming progress and ethics ".

Maybe all these “god and guns” idiots will take care of themselves after all.

Well I'm not sure how a gun in someone's pocket can shoot them in the face, but who knows.

As far as religion goes, I guess it comforts the survivors in some way to know that what happened is god's will and that the victim is now safe in the hands of the lord. Or maybe they just don't know what else to say. Or maybe they're just FOS. But this is what drives me nuts about it. If things go well, their god gets all the credit. When things go badly, god gets a pass. The whole thing is ridiculous. People live, then they die. It's as simple as that. None of us are getting out of this alive.

@Gooniesnvrdie You're correct. When I have to speak to the bereaved, I don't. I just give them a hug and an encouraging smile, and move on. The comments are sickening and stale. All about being in a better place... and the suffering is over... and keep them in your heart and god is watching over them.. and the worst of all: "It's a blessing". All BS. It hurts to lose a loved one, but over time it'll hurt less. Everyone knows that. Why people think they have to offer verbal platitudes is beyond me.

@Gooniesnvrdie I haven't seen that. I'll have to check youtube

@Gooniesnvrdie, @Closeted My late husband's grandfather and grandmother were loyal catholic churchgoers, and every week they put cash into the box. When the grandfather passed away, the church refused to allowed him to be buried there because there was no record that he had ever contributed to the church. His wife left the church that day and never returned.

@Gooniesnvrdie Just watched it. Oh, I gotta see that movie!!!! 🙂

@Gooniesnvrdie My sentiments exactly

@Gooniesnvrdie Your comment reminded me of my Uncles funeral. I sat right in front of my mom and the preacher just starting going on and on and on about heaven and didn't say one word about my Uncle. I don't think my mom meant to say it as loud as she did but she said He wouldn't have wanted to listen to this shit. I laugh thinking about it

@Gooniesnvrdie Its embarassing how the preachers make the funeral about themselves and make a spectacle. Just say a few words and shut the hell up.

They’re not believers, they’re pretenders. They’re also at least a bit less than whole..

All country music stars are "falling." It's the only shit they write about.

I looked up your boy here. The gun was supposedly a prop that went of accidentally. Perhaps someone should have explained that a prop gun doesn't actually shoot. Or... Maybe... They could have just unloaded the gun!

This whole affair will doubtlessly spawn a host of country songs!

Thanks for the info. I missed it that the gun was a prop but your info puts this entire mess in a similar light as the death of Brandon Lee while filming "The Crow." Prop guns are not supposed to shoot.

@DenoPenno I think Brandon Lee died from a blank cartridge fired from a real gun. The blank was just fired too close. He was actually killed by the cardboard wadding that hit him as though it was a lead bullet. If I recall correctly.

@Gooniesnvrdie Yup.... After checking again... It was "supposed" to be a blank. It got mixed up with real bullets somehow. Poor kid!

@DenoPenno, @RiverRick, @Gooniesnvrdie why would someone have a gun in their pocket pointing up? I mean, if you are dumb enough to put a loaded gun in your pocket - would you not have the handle so you could grab it 1st?

@Heidi68 Who knows... Accidents happen. Perhaps he had it in a jacket pocket for use later. We'll probably never know.

@RiverRick true. Just seems odd.

@Heidi68 " why would someone have a gun in their pocket pointing up? I mean, if you are dumb enough to put a loaded gun in your pocket - would you not have the handle so you could grab it 1st?"
That is why people who pocket carry usually also have the gun inside a pocket holster.

@dahermit true - pocket holster would still have it pointing down.

Yea, I looked it up. A prop gun, some, will fire and expell a small padding and plastic. At close range the blast can do damage (against the head) or in this case the guy got hit in the eye. Definitely not in his pocket, but the family won't face that possibility.

@Gooniesnvrdie Yes, Lee got hit by misfired and inaccuracy of rounds for realism.
