Hindus probably have the most gods. Each month there's a different one to worship - for luck, knowledge, health and so on. ...and the main gods differ from north to south. There's also the snake god the monkey god and so on and special festivals are held for this. It's absolutely absurd. All this money spent on these festivals and no food to eat. No wonder there's so much poverty in India. Religious beliefs, the caste system (they have human beings called untouchables), twisted politics, slavery of their own kind to the extreme, illiteracy, is keeping them forever backwards. They need to ask themselves why these gods are not helping them and come to the reality it's All man-made and a whole lot of BS "bestowed" on them. People hurting themselves pulling hooks and carts on their backs, needles pierced through their tongue, walking on fire, All in the name of religious sacrifices. uurrrrrghhhhhh nooooooooo. If devote Hindus are reading this, wake up! ask yourselves how much longer!!!! Thousands of year's have passed and still???This is extreme madness and self inflicted. You have yourself to blame if you don't speak out against this insanity. Your leaders and your gods don't mind that you defacate and eat from the same spot??? You are being controlled!

Interesting post, @TimeOutForMe ! Catholics employ saints in a similar fashion, elevating humans to demi-god status upon their deaths, each saint supposedly having performed a miracle. In medieval times, every day of the year was devoted to a particular saint, each of them venerated for certain qualities. I was named after Saint Brendan, patron saint of sailors and navigators. My father chose that name after surviving a huge typhoon in the South China Sea in World War Two, when he stayed at the helm of the ship he commanded for 5 days and nights, probably offering MANY prayers to Saint Brendan, like many other Catholic sailors, who often wore his medals as talismans of luck. Over 200 ships were sunk or driven ashore in that storm... a LOT of men were praying!

When I was a kid a lot of reform was going on in the Catholic church and many saints were purged because they were found to actually be ancient pagan heroes worshiped by Celt, Germanic and Scandinavian tribes long before they were converted to Christianity. Of course they were made saints to help in those early conversions! Thousands of saints were purged... which was helpful for young priests being consecrated because the Litany of Saints was recited for each new priest: Imagine hearing each of 4000 saints beseeched by saying, "Saint Abelard, Pray for Us... Saint Acheron, Pray for Us..." Must have taken 4 fucking hours!
