Budapest has very clean streets and I am sure it has a lot to do with people like this gentleman. This despite the fact that pet poop is not picked up by the owner but instead waits for the street sweeper America has fancy machines to clean the streets but our streets are not as clean as Budapest. A mindset that does not appreciate honorable work creates depression and unemployment.

In China, we have armies of street sweepers everywhere. Their brooms are made of bamboo twigs, tied around a stick. Many are parents/grandparents of higher-paid migrant workers.

Well, something a civilized nation shouldn't follow.

@zesty ...I've long lost my definition of civilized...

My mother, little old lady from Germany came here twice. Each time she noticed that people did not clean the sidewalks in front of their houses, that they spit out of the car window and that there were not enough recycling cans.
Amsterdam , the beautiful city, let dog owners get away with not picking up thier dog's waste. Dutch people love very big dogs. You really had to watch where you stepped there.

Christine Lee Budapest dog owners don't pick up their dog waste either but the streets sweepers seemed to be right behind them.

Nice used to be terrible for dog excrement. There is also a brand of soda drinks from Perrier called "Pschitt", which comes in orange or lemon flavours. So with the children, whenever we were in Nice, (or Paris), we would all walk along giggling and calling out " mind that lemonade" as we leapt over it!!

Our streets and countryside are very clean where I live...but we are a tourist destination so we have to be presentable at all times...and yes, a lot of it has to do with the community doing clean up days, etc. along our creeks, streams, near the high schools (kids are the worst...they need to continue teaching no littering!)...

How about Switzerland?

People clean up after themselves in most European countries, though not as much as they used to.

@Barnie2years Hope that isn't due to an American influence!! 🤣😂😁

How about it? I'm afraid of heights so I have never been there.

@Lorajay Actually, Spain almost has a higher average altitude. Yet no one seems to realise it has the second highest average altitude of any country in Europe. Just sayin'.

@Petter, more like a sign of the times in general.
