We are leaving on a short trip to Tennessee tomorrow to visit the grandson we have not seen since his father's funeral. His father committed suicide. My plan is not to speak of it unless asked a direct question. It was 16 years ago. Wish me luck. I'll be behaving against my nature.

Thank you. I am hoping for the best. Let's hope that the tornadoes will miss us.
Can I ask why it is that you haven’t seen your grandson in 16 years, and how old is he now?

His mother moved out of state after a nasty custody battle. He is now 18. He communicates with his grandfather via FB. He is not my grandson, but I knew his father.
@Spinliesel I wish you both the best of visits....I think your approach is wise.
@Marionville Thank you, Marje. It is against my nature to ignore the elephant in the room, but since i have gotten older "first of all, do no harm" has become my motto. The trip will be scenic and maybe dangerous ( tornadoes and flooding ) but it will be good for everybody.
I am leaving the laptop at home.
