Organ donation - Another harm of religion

Several weeks ago I was chatting with a few people when the subject of organ donation came up. One person in the group stated he chooses not to be a donor due to theological reasons. Though I initially thought he was speaking in jest, his followup explanation, “What if you need your organs after you die?”, was spoken in sincerity. Needless to say, I was floored to hear an otherwise intelligent-seeming individual make such a statement.

Consequentially, another sick person may die if this gentleman dies prematurely, as his organs will be unavailable.

I have had a donor card for years although my organs are a bit "used" by now. We are moving towards a "default" system here where donation is automatic unless a person opts out.

I would love to see an opt-out system implemented in the US.

@palex A great idea but the Christian fundamentalists would probably veto it.

Maybe only donors should be recipients?

Sounds like he doesn't quite understand the concept of decomposition !

And here I thought it was all about the soul leaving the mortal coil behind...which includes heart, lungs, corneas, etc, etc.
