Assume there were a technological breakthrough that would allow people to travel easily and cheaply between continents as between nearby cities Unfortunately there would be 100,000 deaths a year from the device Would you try to prevent its use?

How would that be any different from automobiles now, except the distance?

Sounds at least as safe as cars. Isn't there around 40,000 deaths in the USA alone from autos? I'm assuming your 100,000 would be world wide.
